Larry Coryell / Miroslav Vitous Quartet

System build winding down finally and I’m back to enjoying music…after all that’s what it’s ultimately all about!
Letting Roon pick some good stuff for me with the Roon Radio feature, I recently discovered a very cool recording by Larry Coryell and Miroslav Vitous. Has some familiar classics as well as some new to me music. Highly recommend it. Recording quality is great as well…check it out and recommend your favorite guitar and bass duos!

@audphile1

I'm a big fan of Coryell's post Fusion recordings but I haven't heard this one.

I can only think of a small handful of other guitar/bass duos...

Ralph Towner and Gary Peacock: "A Closer View" and "Oracle"

"Haden and Hall"  Charlie and Jim, of course.

"Beyond the Missouri Sky" -- Metheny and Haden

Pass and NHOP -- "Northsea Nights"

Then, there are trios where the bass is a lead instrument as much as the guitar.

The first one that comes to mind is "The Unforgettable NHOP Trio Live" -- a killer record. I believe it's on Spotify. Don't know about the others on the list.

That's all I got.

Thank you for the recording recommendations. I love jazz guitar and jazz double bass (Plucked and con arco). I’ll hunt these down.

Charles

@stuartk thanks! I’ll check those out. I have heard the Charley Haden albums you mentioned but not the others.

I had one more cool guitar / bass recording come up on the feed. This one was by Ron Carter and Joel Xavier, the track name is “Silence”:

@stuartk "The Unforgettable NHOP Trio Live"

Excellent album and great recording quality! Thanks for this!!!

Heard Larry Coryell at Grinnell College in 1980.  Just him and a piano, a 6 string and a 12 string acoustic guitars and an electric guitar.  He finished the show by pounding on the piano and getting feedback going then grabbed the electric guitar and started banging on it and the shoved on top of the strings in the grand piano and walked away
