May Dac w/External Clock.

Has anyone tried or considered trying the them together? I have the Gaia to convert to I2S(no cable yet).

Ice pad north of 5K adding a clock to my DCS Bartók and I couldn’t tell any difference at all. I sold all the stuff and got less than 4K back. It was an expensive and stupid adventure. I wish I would’ve rather spend the difference on a new piece of equipment.

You might EMail Tim Conner at Kitsuni.  I was dead set on I2s, but found out that the May DAC samples I2s exactly like USB, or coax.  Tim claims that there is no advantage to I2s.  No I2s clock information is used by the May DAC.  That said, having a better signal might be of some use.  The DAC has a very good internal clock and to better it you are probably looking at a much more expensive DAC with clock inputs and the external clock can be more costly than the DAC.  It isn’t just having an external clock that is important, but the quality of the clock.

A friend with a very resolving system has the Holo May DAC and we went back and forth between the Holo Red streamer to the DAC comparing I2S and USB. They are different, and to our ears, the USB had a broader soundstage and more presence in the tonalities.

@hilde,

My friend has my Serene/May KTE/Oracle CD2000 and he owns the Red. In his system, the Red is secondary vs the May/Oracle combo.

Von,

Does that mean the PS Audio transport is of no use via I2S into the May? My friend has the Mk 1 dac, wants the Mk2 but likes the May for SACD to be used with the PSA transport.
