Magico Owners - what are you using for amplification?

Hi all,

Pretty simple just like the title says.....curious what other owners are using for power. I was having a moment a while back where I thought I could use an improvement, and then more recently the other night was completely blown away and laughing that I ever considered it. Figured I might ask here and get some good feedback. Currently using Luxman 509x integrated with S3MK1’s. When I was researching the "fit" (since I already had the amp) I stumbled on feedback from the FL audio show where they were debuting the A3’s with 509x and getting great reviews. A3 is rated same 88db/4ohm as the S3 but might in fact be a bit easier? Who knows.

I don’t own a pair of Magico’s, but a friend has a pair of S5 MKIIs that I get to hear for extended sessions a few times a year. They’re usually driven by Convergent JL-5 or JL-7 Black Path Extreme tube amps, with a CAT SL-1 preamp, and a pretty slick front end. They always sound like the best system I’ve heard. That CAT’s just drive the crap out of them no problem, while sounding like the sweetest mid range and treble you’ve ever heard. 😎

I use a McIntosh MC312 power amp to drive my Magico A5 speakers and could not be happier with the SQ. The sound is both very dynamic, crystal clear, perfect sound stage and a very flat frequency response.

@hanki your note confirms my Luxman preference is a good one, but will look into Coda and class A perhaps more generally. 
@knotscott I am the friend who hosts the majority of listening parties 🤣
@mgattmch one of my very brief brainstorms on this had me finding some sort of interesting all in one preamp streamer DAC and pairing it with a pair of MC611's.  Guessing that would be killer.  

Warming up my 509x currently for my session this evening.  😎

Not sure if helpful, but I was planning to use my Constellation Inspiration Pre+Stereo to run my new speakers.  At AXPONA 2022, I auditioned Magico A5 and Rockport Atria, but ended up purchasing the demo Vimberg Mino D which sounded fabulous.

Alon also thinks highly of Odyssey amplifiers - he occasionally uses it.
