Good sounding system is appreciated without musicality it won’t connect to the listener.
How does sound influence your appreciation?
Since I’ve gotten my system to a very good place, I find myself liking the performance of almost everything I hear. Now in classical music, there are sometimes dozens of performances of the same piece, each performance having its own unique take. I now seem to like every interpretation I hear regardless of differences, due to the great sound. I’m losing my discernment because the sound is so much a part of the equation. This is more true of orchestral music than other types
How about you?

i concur with your post. I never needed a good system to appreciate the music i love. But a bad system/room is a problem to solve if we want to explore complex choral music or big orchestra as in symphonies. Anyway a piano sound horrible in bad system/room. An organ is nowhere near what it is: a beast... And human voices ask for a good system/room for the voices timbre and nuances... I dreamed about a high-fi system of great qualities all my life. I succeeded only few years ago without big money investment ( thanks to basic knowledge especially acoustics ).

@oberoniaomnia *G* That was actually worth repeating... ;) I'm addicted to variety of music, predominately the current currencies' of many 'flavors'....obviously with my penchant of poking things at y'all at large... I listen in a space that is certainly nor Albert Hall, except for the holes in it with a Different collection of items that suite my budget; But do what I attempt rationally well with the flexibility I think best to accomplish enough inputs and speaker lines out..... The speakers are a bit of a misshapen line array, floor to flown. Add or subtract at will, some bi-amping may be involved... Think a different take on the Wall of Sound. Certainly not one of Legos' but the sound allows to discern or just enjoy. And no neighbors to disturb. 👍 |
i like a project where I can take a low-end, modest ( cheap ) speaker and turn it into a giant killer! oK FOLKS HERE HOW THEY CAN BE FIXED !the sony tower Sony SS-CS3 3 Danny, GR research said : " We’ve done that upgrade on the Sony tower Sony SS-CS3 3 and look forward to getting it back to you. " here are the results AFTER it’s fixed ! the sony tower Sony SS-CS3 3 Impedance: Fairly balanced other than the dip in the lower midrange down, to 2.67ohms in the lower midrange. the sony tower Sony SS-CS3 3 Spectral Decay: Much cleaner decay overall, but still a bit messy, should clean up with NoRez and some additional stuffing the sony tower Sony SS-CS3 3 Vertical Axis: they get a fairly proud around 3Khz as you move up above the tweeter, but still fairly smooth overall. the sony tower Sony SS-CS3 3 Horizontal Axis: still very smooth. the sony tower Sony SS-CS3 3 read and weep "We did Design something for the SSCS3 that worked out pretty well, but the main issue is that the impedance unfortunately drops to ~2.7 ohms at ~350Hz, which will make them quite hard to drive, and can make some amps run hot or cause them to become unstable. Here are the new measurements: (old measurements in the attachments) OnAxis+ crossover: Much smoother response than stock." thousands of happy customers in 105 countries rather well proves the wisdom and efficacy of GR research approach! his critics are facile proven idiots , dolts IME ! Danny knows what will sound best and simply ..............................does it ! he recently corrected this low-end Sony tower speaker and will soon correct the crossover when i send the same speaker back to him now redesigned by me as a horiziontal center channel speaker w/ the base removed & w/ the drivers re-arranged.in a W-t/M-W configuration ! the point is to take modest-priced speaker and make it as good sounding as an expensive one ! he did the same / similar w/ the bookshelf speaker of the series brilliantly making the super-tweeter the tweeter and the tweeter a dome style midrange ! his crossover magic ! all w/ out changing the drivers! this resulted in a very cheap speaker $180 a pair ! having the performance of $1K speaker ! amazing ! next crazy project (and a bit more difficult is to take one of the Sony SS-CS3 3 towers take off the little base and turn it horizontal and make it a upgraded center channel! we will reconfigure the speakers to a ideal center channel W-T/M -W configuration! yes it will require new faceplate and new x -over too! we are considering configuring the woofers w/ the Allison acoustic push pull configuration ! that means they are electrically OUT of phase but acoustically IN Phase . it gives 20% less harmonic distortion too! here is the little stock center-channel one has to wonder if it is that the makers are doing such p$%-poor engineering, design or that they deliberately use such cheap a#$ parts!? as a member of SAE ( Society OF Automotive Engineers ) I know if automakers did this, used cheap parts, cars would be nearly useless! next crazy project (and a bit more difficult is to take one of the Sony SS-CS3 3 towers take off the little base and turn it horizontal and make it a upgraded center channel! we will reconfigure the speakers to a ideal center channel W-T/M -W configuration! yes it will require new faceplate and new x -over too! we are considering configuring the woofers w/ the Allison acoustic push pull configuration ! that means they are electrically OUT of phase but acoustically IN Phase . it gives 20% less harmonic distortion too! here is the little stock center-channel
