Chet Baker vs. Miles Davis

As crazy as it sounds I'd have to go with Chet.

And You?

@onhwy61 I would dare to call myself reasonable informed (perhaps not yet formed) and I believe that I have about 30 or more albums of Miles and about the same number of  Chet's album in my collection.

Regarding my 'personal preference' and as much I appreciate Miles, there are 'places' where Chet is just beyond reach, not only for him, but in general...imho

For trumpet playing I'd say Clifford Brown>Miles Davis>Lee Morgan>Freddie Hubbard>Dizzy Gillespie and then Chet Baker.

As a bandleader and composer it's no contest Miles over Chet by a mile also.

That said I really like Chet Baker no shame in anyone being better and like the OP I find his tone very soothing.

....both very, very good with talent that will never be duplicated but in my opinion , two different artists. Enjoy them both.

Miles Davis by a country mile!!!  #1: The Miles Davis Kind of Blue album is the best selling and greatest jazz album of all-time.  #2:  Albums sold worldwide=  Miles Davis= over 9.2 million vs Chet Baker= a mere 70,000.  No contest.

I watched the chat baker story on dish it was very interesting even his drug problem which is very common amoung entertainers. The he moved out of the usa and had a great career. Enjoy the music
