I have power conditioning within reason. I’m not having this issue with my Thorens TT, my MF cd transport or my Oppo 105. I have 4 pairs of speakers and am presently running Tekton DI’s with upgraded crossovers and Townsend Podiums. I don’t feel the “ Glare “ is a speaker/ room issue but more of my description as to a tonal change. As I stated above it’s only with my streamer and it’s very distinct and it’s either there or not. I’m sure that the overall power source affects the entire picture , however I tend to feel it’s mostly induced through the TP link magnifying it during times of noisy power.
Mid Fi streaming question.
Hi all , I’m currently at the Mid Fi level and in the process of improving my system. My current streaming setup is an Innuos Pulse Mini with an aftermarket LPS feeding an original Schiit Yiggy with an updated Gen 5 USB. I’m running a Wireworld Starlight Platinum USB to the Yiggy and Morrow level 5 IC’s to my pre. I’m currently running single ended and will be going to a higher quality balanced rig. I believe that my streaming rig is already the weak link in my system even before I go to the new setup. But I have an issue even it this point. The music sounds acceptable under the circumstances about 2/3 of the time. The rest of the time it has a more hollow sound and a bit more glare. My exact question is , I am hardwired but have a real hodgepodge of a connection due to structural limits. I have ATT in via coax to a modem/ router. I have a cat 5 out to the other end of the house but dead end before I reach my destination. From there I have a TP-Link outlet adapter that the Cat cable plugs into. Then in my living room the other wall outlet adapter with a cat cable to the Innuos. I know it’s a real mess and need a solution to the 6 items linked together that use my house circuit to carry the signal. However until I can get someone to run a dedicated line that will be 150 feet long and have to use an outside wall , any suggestions? My initial thoughts are to use some kind of Ethernet isolation filter. I see cheap ones on Amazon and some nicer ones that run about $300-400. My goal is to clean this up as I expect an improvement will definitely be had and eventually I’ll upgrade my steamer. Thanks in advance for not burning me at the stake. Respectfully, Mike B.

@zlone @soix , Thanks to both of you. I’m going to purchase the Smoothlan and give that a try. I’m not sure long term what I will do for power conditioning. I’m doing a huge kitchen remodel next month that includes a couple new circuits. Most of my gear is packed away, but I want to deal with this Ethernet issue first. My pending remodel will take 2 months and impact my kitchen, den and living room. When complete I am setting up a fresh pair of Rogue M-180 Darks, Rogue Hera, and all the front end stuff mentioned above. My current plan is to run my front end gear through the Dan Gray and plug the mono blocks straight into the Hubble outlets. If I don’t go broke during the remodel I plan on getting two dedicated 20 amp circuits for my monos and pending subs. In the short term I just need to deal with my current issue. Thanks , Mike B. |
+1 Improving the quality of the streamer is probably the single most significant item in the chain. You are getting the bits. A high quality steamer with significantly improve the sound quality. Small incremental improvements in infrastructure can also make small incremental improvements. You can choose... you get lots of other improvements with a better streamer. I have an outstanding vinyl system that often is bested by my digital system running off a wifi extender. |
@ghdprentice , I totally understand, hence my “ MidFi “ statement. Due to budget limitations I will probably never get to your level of gear. However I am planning on a better steamer after I get my gear set up and my room treatments dialed in. Your system is quite impressive and I appreciate your input. Regards, Mike B. |
