Another Cable Burn-in Question

I've checked the archives and I'm still not certain about this. I want to burn-in a new ic cable between CD player and preamp. I set the CD player to repeat/play but does the preamp need to be turned on? I'd rather not leave my tubed pre on during burn-in if I don't have to.

Typically the answer is no as the input impedance is unchanged regardless if the preamp is on or off but it may vary by manufacturer. Another option is to use a tuner instead of CD player.

If you are using RCA cables, get a cheap CD/DVD player for such burn in. Also, ISOTEK makes a terrific burn in disc.

Not sure about needing your pre to be on

Can't use my tuner as it only has RCA outs and my new ic is XLR. I have an XLO test and burn-in CD with demagnetizing and burn-in tracks. Would there be any advantage in terms of burn-in time to use this instead of a music CD? Thanks for your responses.

In my opinion, as long as your ears aren't bleeding, I would just let them burn in naturally over time instead of knocking yourself out. If you are determined to burn them in, you should list the cable maker in your post, since burn in time will vary among the different makers and their own particular cable model.
