Nicole Atkins, in whose voice you can hear traces of Edith Piaf, Mama Cass Elliot, and Roy Orbison. Needless to say, those first two belong in this discussion, also.

I would have to also give a nod to Ricki Lee. Listen to A Girl and Her Volcano, Funny Valentine (live) Tremendous range and feeling, always plays with top notch musicians and is an excellent composer, musician and recording artist.
