" The bottom octave is generally considered to be 20Hz to 40Hz, the second octave 40-80Hz and so on. "This is what I had in mind when I was talking about "the bottom octave or so".   I don't normally recommend running the Swarm higher than about 8...

Installo43, yeah I don't think I could buy a testimonial like that one if I wanted to!In your situation I think we'd use essentially the same approach... run the Treo's fullrange, and use the Swarm to fill in the bottom octave or so.  I have owner...

"Does anyone here have experience pairing a Swarm/DEBRA with relatively full range speakers...in this instance the Vandersteen Treo’s?"Installo43, one of my customers has Vandersteen Quatros. Before getting the Swarm, he had been using one sub and...
The midi range, not the tweeter, is the most important driver in a speaker.
I agree that the midrange region matters most, but not necessarily that the midrange driver itself matters most.  Imo how well the midrange driver works with its partners, the woofer & tweeter, matters more than the individual excellence viewe...

" [The Yamaha NS-10’s] are too revealing not distorting. They are used by the best recording studios. They could choose any speaker they like." The NS-10 is not an accurate speaker, but its value is this: If the mix sounds good on the NS-10, then ...
3D imaging
Not many people realize that there can be a tradeoff relationship between soundstage width and imaging precision. Strong early sidewall reflections expand the apparent width of the soundstage but they do so at the expense of imaging precision, and...
Congratulations Atmasphere!
Ralph has a uniquely thorough appreciation and understanding of "what matters to the ear". My mentor Earl Geddes (with Lydia Lee) had a pair of peer-reviewed papers on distortion perception published in the Journal of the Audio Engineering Society...
Best home remedy for paper cone woofers cleaning the dust off?
My paper cones usually have accordion surrounds so I use a soft paintbrush which has never been used for anything else, and it does a pretty good job of reaching into the valleys of the accordion.

I just wanted to make it known that, in addition to Jim Romeyn's DEBRA which differs from my Swarm in footprint (his is rectangular, mine is square), Vinh Vu of Ginko Audio offers a slimmer and trimmer Swarm-type system as part of his Sextet, whic...
Crossover Capacitor In Parallel with Woofer
Sometimes what works is a second-order lowpass filter with a lower-than-normal L/C ratio and a resistor in series with the capacitor on the shunt leg. This is a damping resistor which prevents response peaking and its accompanying impedance dip. T...
Are there any current high end dipole speakers (dynamic)?
Berner99 asks: "Wouldn’t the amount of reflected sound that reaches listener be very different from dipole/bipole vs any random ported box speaker?" Assuming similar radiation pattern shapes, yes having two such patterns - one in the front and one...
