DAC Opamp Upgrade
It entirely depends on what you want to accomplish.  The Burson op amps are FET based devices and have that rich FET like sound.  I auditioned the Burson V5 op amps.  While they are very resolving, they just did not sing in my system.  I found mys...
Amp recommendation and setup advice please
Essentially, a preamp is used for several things: - As a way to switch between multiple sound sources (i.e. CD player, tape, etc.) - Be able to provide a way to adjust volume - Contains a circuit that has enough current to drive certain amps ...

Let’s look at the Audio-GD models: NFB-29.28 : RCA output only  NFB-28.28 : RCA + XLR outputs Internally, these two models are almost exactly the same.  The “28” model output stage is engineered to work for XLR balanced output.  This means th...
Will an angled enclosure effect the sound of a passive radiator?
@teo_audio - that is very interesting.  I would have responded that there shouldn't be much impact on an angled surface.  In fact, I would have thought that it would improve the issue with standing waves (as many speaker boxes have been designed w...
Audiophiles should learn from people who created audio
It is interesting that the historical significant scientists and inventors that we have documented were see at their time to be total crackpots.
Atmos’ killer app? Sounds like, amusingly, headphones
I don’t think Atmos will render music any better than your typically hi-res 24/96 or 24/192. It all depends on how the recording itself was produced. In addition, I don’t know that Atmos at the home user will be any better than normal old Dolby Tr...

I agree with Erik that center channel is probably the most important speaker in a HT system.  In movie audio production, the center channel is where the source of vocals are generated from.  However, the left/right channel also has a tiny bit of v...

You may want to consider the NFB 28.28 instead.  It has balanced XLR outputs as well as RCA.  The Yamaha studio monitors have both balanced XLR and a 1/4" TRS plug inputs.  They do NOT have standard RCA inputs, so if you chose the 29.28, you would...

Googling around:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vCiLSOZXaQo It could be small differences, but the new HS8 doesn't push the midbass as much and is a little clearer in the midrange.  Not sure if you would really notice.I don't have experience with ...
DIY acoustic panels?
another thing about Roxul 80.  They are extremely heavy when compared to Owens 703.  (almost 3 times as heavy).  So if you are mounting on the wall, it may be better to get the lighter 3lb stuff like Owens 703.  However, the Roxul 80 will have bet...
Marantz av7005 vs av8801 vs Theta Casablanca
Theta upgrade will be extremely expensive.  You are probably looking at $4,000 to $7,000 to upgrade to latest, depending on which DSP version and DAC boards you need.  If you want 9.1, it's probably over $10k for sure.

If you want powered monitors, I actually use Yamaha HS80m monitors for my computer speakers. They are actually not bad. There are a couple used on UK Ebay:https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yamaha-HS80M-studio-near-field-reference-monitors-PAIRED-BOXED-fr...
DIY acoustic panels?
Be aware that the denser fiberglass (such as the 8lb Roxul Rockboard 80) does not work effectively if you start layering them past 2" or so.  If you want a really thick bass trap (such as 6" - 8") it is best to use 3 lb panels, such as Owens 703.
Does a new cd transport require break-in time?
If what jea48 suggests doesn’t fix anything, one thing you could do is connect the digital out from CXC to digital input of the Oppo and use Oppo as a “DAC”.  This would at least confirm that CXC is working properly.
Does a new cd transport require break-in time?
@willemj - to be honest, I once thought as you did now, but that was 19 years ago.  The idea that cables do not make any difference and bit perfect is bitperfect and “it’s just data” and speakers/components do not require burn in after a few hours...
