Impedance Question?
Others have had issues regarding impedance.  If the amplifier input impedance is 10k, it is really only suitable to match to a solid-state preamp.  With a tube preamp, it can work, but you may start to see weak bass/midbass (among other issues).  ...

My one question (among many others) is would my TV/display benefit from the "additional" video processing of the AVR unit vs. plugging the HDMI directly into the TV (I have the latest 4k TV from LG)It depends.  Sometimes the video processor in the...

HT Processors:Marantz 8802a - (if you choose this, make sure to get the 8802a model. The original 8802 does not support HDCP2.2). Based on your budget and everything you need to get (speakers, etc.), I would probably recommend this. It is an excel...

I know avlee said that you can ignore 4K processing and run all your sources to the TV (I'm assuming that you would just use a digital coax or toslink connected to a AVR/processor for the audio).  The problem here is that you will NOT get any of t...
CD/DVD player advice
The Oppo 105 plays CDs quite well.  It has excellent power supply and analog stages.  However, one of the problems is that it is designed as a "universal" player and doesn't have specific digital clocks for CD playback.  Also, it does still have a...
Looking to completely overhaul my preamp section, knowledgeable people needed!
I have not heard the Audio GD products, but they have a very positive feedback on other forums and review sites.  The general sonic signature seems to be very natural sounding without any harshness.  The different product lines relate to the type ...

I have looked and worked extensively with Emotiva products. Yes, they are an excellent value for the price point. They do have very good design on their topology and layout. The downside is they use lower cost components to provide that "price poi...

I used to own an Adcom 545 II amp.  While it was a great introduction to separates, when compared to other amps the Adcom was just smearing the sound.
Looking to completely overhaul my preamp section, knowledgeable people needed!
With recent experience and discoveries, I would avoid stuff with switching power supplies such as the Mytek Brooklyn or Benchmark dacs.   I have been in close communication with another user (robelvick) who initially went with a Benchmark DAC2 HGC...
Best fuses for under $50?
@gbmcleod - Sorry, I didn't see your new post until today (so thanks Todd for posting!).  Thanks also for the feedback on the Furutech combination.  What are the other fuses in your NAD?  Also, I am very interested in a comparison with the BLUE fu...
My Parasound A21 review and VS Emotiva XPA
I believe that the biggest reason the XPR series was discontinued was due to weight and cost of shipping.  The XPR had to be shipped via truck services on a pallet.  It was too heavy for standard UPS (although it appears FedEx will accept these). ...
OPPO vs Marantz SA-14 audio wise
Not sure if I completely agree with you, Matt.  The Oppo is pretty much a "swiss army knife" of players.  It is a universal player that will play pretty much any media (audio, video, bluray, etc.) with an excellent video processor and a very good ...
Is this my imagination?
This could be related to Speaker Boundary Interference Response (SBIR):http://www.gikacoustics.com/speaker-boundary-interference-response-sbir/ It's good reading.   I have had this problem as well when a speaker is too close to a side wall or when...
Component recommendations: best bang for buck.
This is likely to get a huge amount of different opinions as everyone here has a different idea of perfect equipment.  It is also difficult because you have such an open ended question -- the recommendations could be anything! lol.I would start lo...
Why don't amplifier Companies use high end fuses?
@davidpritchard - good advice.  However, keep in mind that the Furutech/PADIS fuses with the rhodium will take 200-250 hours to fully burn in.  100 hours will not cut it on these.
