Any opinions on Usher Audio R1.5 and 6.0?
The R1.5 appears to be a very high bias Class A amp.  Based on the overhead draw (260 watts as idle), I would guess you are looking at a Class A bias somewhere between 25 and 40 watts per channel.  Please be aware that the amp will draw 55 watts c...

Optimal Setup question Oppo/McIntosh
The 105 will not accept a 4K source on the HDMI input and it will not play any 4K media.  Anything 4K will automatically be down-converted to 1080p.  However, it will upscale any video to the older "original" 4K x 2K format. The 205 will both play ...
Wyred4Sounds Mamp Monoblock
The mAMP is based on the ICEpower Class D module.  If you want the "latest" Class D, maybe look into the ncore amps.  A couple of examples for 2-channelATI AT522NC - $1695 from soundapproach.comNord Acoustics "One Up" model with discrete Class A i...
Optimal Setup question Oppo/McIntosh
For home theater purposes, the Oppo player will be a significant improvement. The older 105 model does an excellent job of handling any bluray or video sourcing. With the 205, you have the ability to do video scaling/processing at 4K. Audio from a...
Keep B&K 507 or Onkyo NR905 OLD receiver advice
Also I dont want to have to turn on the receiver to watch TV. If all my hdmi signals are going through the Onkyo does it have to be on to watch basic TV?If you hook all your sources (bluray, satellite, etc.) up to the Onkyo first, then yes the Onk...
Channel Imbalance at low volumes
It can be some resistor along the way (maybe on the input of a gain circuit).  With the volume down low, the imbalance ratio between left/right resistance could be far enough apart.   With the volume higher or wide open, it is not such a difference.
Channel Imbalance at low volumes
This is due to the aging potentiometer that is used for the volume control.  The volume knob actually controls a two-channel variable potentiometer (one for left channel, one for right channel).  This unit is about 30 years old, so there are likel...
Best Budget RCA cables
@leemaze - I don't know if there is a solid-core 20awg RCA cable.  Best I can tell, the Audioquest cables are all 22awg solid-core.  I have not done a lot of research, but there could be some cables.  For example, the Audio Sensibiilty Signature c...
System Upgrade Recommendations
@rjb1101 - your dealer's statement that a "home theater bypass" in a preamp will completely bypass the 2x preamp stages in a particular preamp is not entirely correct.  A lot of preamps will just act as a "unity gain stage".  This means that the s...
Keep B&K 507 or Onkyo NR905 OLD receiver advice
This amp originally retailed for $2495, and based on other older Class D amps, the used price is about right.  That being said, here's a review:https://www.soundandvision.com/content/rotel-rmb-1077-amplifier This is one of the First Generation Cla...
Why don't amplifier Companies use high end fuses?
Okay, I just ordered one of the PADIS fuses from ebay.  I'm going to see how it compares to the out-of-the-box Futurech retail fuse.  When looking at the PADIS, I could not specifically tell if it was the exact same thing as the Furutech fuse.  Th...
To Float or not to Float...
I believe the "float" switch is there for some equipment which have circuits that depend on a "floating ground".  It is always best to disable "float" and set it to "ground" position unless there is a reason not to.
Best Budget RCA cables
@213runnin - I don't necessary agree that all interconnects in a system need to be solid core.  Granted, that would be the best solution, but even just having one solid core is better than nothing.  I would recommend this at the last point before ...
Keep B&K 507 or Onkyo NR905 OLD receiver advice
I didn’t mean to dis your Onkyo receiver. I know that Onkyo is very nice for a receiver and your model is VERY hefty at 54 lbs. (hardly any receiver has that much weight). This is very good for its power supply. I was just trying to read into what...
