Bryston SP3
I believe Bryston is keeping the SP3 product as an option for people who don't need or want a more expensive 15 channel Dolby Atmos, etc. processor.  The SP3 uses their Class A discrete analog circuits, which I believe they are re-engineering into...
Aragon
Aragon preamps are extremely simple circuits.  It's very easy to do modifications to them.  You can try contacting Underwood Hifi.  They do a lot of equipment mods and would probably be able to quote an upgrade price just from looking at internal ...
Solid State Preamp Under $8000
Have you tried looking for a Krell Illusion or a Krell Phantom 1 preamp?  Since you're looking for a "transparent" preamp, those are likely very good candidates and I would say that the Krell preamps are in the same "voicing" as the Esoteric stuff...
Krell Showcase --> Evolution S1200U upgrade nightmare
The S1200 has a known issue where the digital DSP board fails.  This is common on the earlier versions of the board.  The "waiting for audio" message and static/poor sound were definitely symptoms of this.  So, yes, I completely agree that the uni...
b&w 800 d3’s
Yes, the D3 speakers are great (but they are really dependent on system and can sound mediocore on the wrong system).  I will second the opinion on the Revel F228BE -- they are definitely an awsome speaker for $10k.  Or you could lower your D3 req...
Recommendations for improving visceral impact?
I will agree with each of cbrents73 comments, but with different reasons.  awilder - sorry man, I think we may have accidentally put you down the wrong road.  However, I will say that we did mention the Marantz was voiced warm.  I think the bigges...
Marantz 8802a > looking for better two channel
Subjective sighted evaluations =/= proof. I could listen to the same thing and say the Marantz is brighter than the Krell, a totally opposite opinion. However, we both would be wrong, as it’s neutral, proveably so. Ah, so you’re one of those "if ...
Marantz 8802a > looking for better two channel
I have personally had the Marantz AV8804 in my system and compared it to Krell S1200.  The Marantz is definitely warm with rolled off highs.
Marantz 8802a > looking for better two channel
yeah, measurements really don't tell the entire story.  You can have measurements on a scope showing flat response to 20khz, but it won't really tell you if the amp is warm of soft or fast or bright.  I've dealt with warm amps before.  You can wor...
Bryston XLR vs Pangea Premier SE XLR
Bryston vs Pangea XLR.  These are two completely different cables.  Bryston uses the Van Damme XLR cable, which is a stranded silver-plated copper wiring.   The Pangea uses pure Cardas copper (which is possibly solid-core) in an oversized PTFE air...
B&W 802d3 vs 802d2
@seventies - I would not make any judgements on your new D3 speakers without breaking them in at least 100 hours (possibly even 200+ hours).  The speaker cones need mechanical break-in and the Mundorf capacitors do need 100-200+ hours of electrica...
Marantz 8802a > looking for better two channel
The Marantz AV880x processor line are very nice pieces.  They have excellent power supplies and audio circuit design.  The sound is very solid and very full and very natural.  However, being Marantz, they are voiced very warm, which means the high...
Best Bass Amp!
Looking at the audiophile (i.e. Hypex) Class D amps, they generally max out at 1200 watts into 4 ohms (with a monoblock).  Also, stability into 2 ohms is not always clear. If you're still looking for a big bass amp, one thought would be too look at...
Audioquest King Cobra vs. Yukon?
King Cobra is a discontinued cable, but it's built almost exactly like the Yukon.  Only difference  is Yukon uses a new type of NDS shielding compared to  standard foil shield of the King Cobra.  In my opinion, King Cobra would be just fine and yo...
Yamaha integrated amp as3000 vs Pass integrated
Event though I'm not a Pass fan, I actually think the Pass INT250 would be better here.  While the Yamaha are very good, I think they actually sound just a small bit of "low fidelity" when compared to Pass.  Pass is much more "natural" sounding.  ...
