Audio Research VSi60 integrated reliability? Post script -- I replaced all the power tubes in my VS-115 with KT-120s. Aside from my sense that these tubes greatly improved the sound quality of my VS-115 as compared to the old 6550Cs, I understand that the KT-120s have a more robust build qua...
Audio Research VSi60 integrated reliability? I admit to having an ARC bias (pun-LOL), but here is my experience. I've owned 2 ARC tube amps: the VS-110 and currently, the VS-115. Yes, it's true, on rare occassion (maybe twice), a power output tube arc'ed and took out a bias resister. I'm for...
Kudos to Peter Ledermann at Soundsmith Actureus, thanks for your comment. As I mentioned above, I've historically passed on using AS and Peter told me the Zephyr stylus was worn in a way that suggested an AS issue. As I also said, I'm using the least amount of weight possible - just on...
Kudos to Peter Ledermann at Soundsmith Brf, the word "failed" is a bit strong. I had about about 1500 hours on the Zephyr when I sent it in. There's a rub though. Peter told me that the wear pattern suggested the AS was off. For those who are familiar with the VPI Classic, it goes with...
Has anyone listened to the soundsmith Paua cart Andy, looking forward to reading your comments on the Paua. Did you ask Peter how much he charges for the re-tip? I had given some thought to picking up a Paua, but my phono pre only puts out 58bd of gain, plus 12db from the line stage, or 70db in...
Broken cantilever Need options... Asindc, sorry about your carty mishap. Your tale is exactly what I talked about in another OP about super high end carties. It's a heart-break when a carty breaks; but from what I've read, and based on my own experience, the stylus in most carties...
VPI Classic 3 Isn't it better to be hooked on audio than be a rotten, cheatin' husband?? No girl friends, no drinkin', no cigs. And my obsession with Linda Ronstadt ala 1970s and 80s doesn't count, especiially her album pic on "Living In The USA." Linda was bor...
VPI Classic 3 Was the box damaged too? So far, I've been lucky too. The way I ship and receive is via a local FedEx/Kinkos store near my house. As said, I ask that heavy equipment be delivered to the FedEx store. The thought being that if a box is damaged, I ca...
Audio Research HD 220 Woolmer: If you check my numerous posts, you will see I am a big ARC fan. Even owned the SP-17 a while back. It's a nice pre. Having said that, I recommend searching the Forum for posts about the HD 220. I seem to remember some mixed comments. As ...
VPI Classic 3 Sh*t Alan!! Sorry to read about your woes. I'm thinking about sending my Classic 1 via FedEx to the VPI factory for some upgrades. The drive to VPI is at least 2 hours from where I live and I can't afford to take off the time. Further, who wants t...
Soundsmith Zephyr vs Dynavector 20X2 ? Why bother with all the cliche audiophile adjectives. The Zephyr just sounds better with the VPI JMW arm. Research other threads on the Forum. Other members have expressed similar views.
Soundsmith Zephyr vs Dynavector 20X2 ? I own both carties. I also own the VPI Classic. The DV 20X2 H is my back-up carty; the Zephyr is my primary. I think the Zephyr is an all-around better sounding carty. IMHO.
Which cartridge do you use with the vpi classic? I think an excellent choice is the Soundsmith Zephyr. Retail is $1000, but you pick up a used Zephyr for $7-800.
VPI Classic 3 Captain, I read your post. I wonder out loud how much of your improvement related to the Classic 3 arm versus the Classic 3 plinth?? As I mentioned above, I upgraded the arm to the Classic 3. I totally agree with your comments about the Dynavector...
VPI Classic 3 Can't completely answer your Q, But FWIW, I own a Classic 1 and I upgraded the wand to a Classic 3 arm. As soon as the VPI factory reopens after recovering from Sandy, I will be upgrading the base to the new VTA on the fly version, which can handl... |
