Audio Research CD5 vs McIntosh MCD500? Uuuhhmm, interesting dilemna. If you check my system, I also own the VS-115. Some say it's very close in sound quality to the now discontinued Ref 110. If you lean more to using the ARC gear, then my bias (sic) would be to go with the CD-5 for the...
Audio Research CD5 vs McIntosh MCD500? Rapet, I own the ARC REF CD-8, which is based on similar technology as the CD-5 -- at least respect to the DAC. I think my CD-8 sounds great, but I cannot in good faith recommend ARC over the MAC. The reason is I have no idea how either piece will...
VPI Classic Azimuth Seems to Change -- Normal?? Ok . .. here's where I stand. Mike sent me a new heavy-weight azimuth ring with large extension counterweights. I also went back to using the VPI azimuth checking rod. I think I am ok now. In any case, I'm not obsessing about it anymore. To my unt...
ARC VM 220 WITH VANDERSTEEN WOOD QUATRO Just a suggestion -- Call John Rutan at Audio Connection in Verona NJ. He is an authorized dealer for both Vandies and ARC and knows his gear. He might be able to help.
Which power amplifier match audio research ref 3 If this thread is still active, then I re-repeat what I and other have said. The Ref 3 will sound best with a late model ARC amp, e.g., ARC VS-115 or the REF 110. I used to own the Ref 3 and now Ref 5) and still own the VS-115. It's a great combo.
VPI Classic Azimuth Seems to Change -- Normal?? Actusreus, yes . . . I tested the azimuth on several records. Same results. The answer to whether I can hear a difference: not really. Doesn't say much for my auditory acuity I suppose. I'm not going to obsess about this, but I am curious what Mik...
VPI Classic Azimuth Seems to Change -- Normal?? Actureus, I never used the VPI AS set-up. Instead, I may have lightly twisted the wire. As stated above, it could be "wire/insulation" memory. Kinda makes sense. At this point, I think there's no twist in the wire.In response to the Q about how I ...
Swapping Paradigm studio 100 tweeter to Beryllium Tiv . . ., just curious, did you call Paradigm to check if the Sig Be tweeter is a simple drop in. There may be other compatibility issues, e.g., cross-over, driver matching, time and phase coherence, etc.
VPI Classic Azimuth Seems to Change -- Normal?? Thanks guys. This may be heretical -- but I am not using the VPI AS set up. I was using the VPI suggested twisted wire - rough justice approach. That is until I relaxed the wire because of the torque issue. Actusreus, I use a tiny bubble level tha...
VPI Classic Azimuth Seems to Change -- Normal?? Tried to make it as straight as possible, but there is always some inherent twist. Very curious. Theoretically, there is nothing that should cause the wand to twist on the uni-pivot point, other than the wire. I'll try calling Mike at VPI and see ...
VPI Classic hum Final thought: if you haven't advised VPI about this yet, please do. If indeed, there is a mechanical hum from the motor, it sounds like the motor needs to be redesigned. The Classic is supposed to be dead quiet, so this is quite unfortunate. But ...
Swapping Paradigm studio 100 tweeter to Beryllium My understanding is that the tweeter did NOT change in the S8 v3 model. Instead, the v3 modified the midrange and bass drivers to make the overall speakers 3db more efficient. Paradigm says that the changes result in the v3 being more "dynamic" th...
VPI Classic hum Last suggestion: if you want to go the Sound Smith or DV 20X route, maybe the dealer will lend the carty to you, or at least install it for you in his shop. Then check the TT for hum. Btw, is using a tape deck to check for hum really a valid way t...
Swapping Paradigm studio 100 tweeter to Beryllium Dunno, but I'll tell ya that I own the S8 v2 which has Be tweeters. The Paradigm Be tweeter is one of the best on the market today. Other high end brands that use Be tweeters include Magico and Usher. Btw, just read somewhere that the cost of neod...
Has anybody heard the new Audio Research LS 27? Egrady, my system is all ARC, so your thread resonates with me. I agree that the only sensible way to break into the ARC product line is to buy used. That's the main way I acquired my ARC stuff. The other way is to buy factory refurb units. The pr... |
