Is it fine to connect a power strip with A/V to one input of the power conditioner?
My suggestion is to get a Furman PST-8 for all your non-essentials instead. Excellent surge protection and will keep the noisy appliances out of your cleaned zone. While power conditioner quality may vary, it IS possible to inject new noise after...
Help with Equitech 1.5Q power conditioner
@jea48 When the same piece of equipment is plugged into a GFCI, say in the kitchen, the small leakage ground fault will be connected to the neutral grounded conductor. I'm afraid I don't see this yet, but I also don't want to jack the OP's thr...
Help with Equitech 1.5Q power conditioner
Hi @jea48  - Not my first time going through a balanced power system, though it is the first time I've known about GFCI on an example.  I read through your explanation, which is what I remember.  The part that I don't get is how a GFCI, connected ...
Help with Equitech 1.5Q power conditioner
Oh, now I get it. GFCI outlets do go bad, but it could also be equipment with a leaky capacitor to ground or a reactive load, which is most likely with bigger motors and amps. If you find the problem is only your amp, I’d suspect swapping a GFCI...
Streamer output options
There were a couple of issues with early USB. It was not asynchronous, and early implementations of asynch were not universal. In addition, still recently, DAC vendors don’t always ensure the USB interface is galvanically isolated, which can cause...
Outlet Requirements
You may find these specifications helpful: https://www.stereophile.com/content/mark-levinson-no436-monoblock-power-amplifier-specifications Keep in mind that most of us barely ever ask our amps to produce more than 20-30 watt peaks, so as long a...
Outlet Requirements
You mentioned the outlets but not the wiring. Do you have 3 circuits, running to 3 separate receptacles? ANd what was your thiking about the 30A outlet??
Fiber or Eithenet
I don’t think it makes an audible difference... but... at 30’ or more the chances of inductively picking up a surge voltage from a nearby lightning strike is non zero. Given the chance to run either fiber or Ethernet I would 100% run fiber for th...
Thoughts on Speakers for a Small Audio/Video Room
Am I treating for general reflections or bass in particular when doing ceilings? @captouch - Depends on your needs. At least for general reflections but if you find yourself lacking space to put bass traps then using that space to do both is a ...
Good outlet for amplifiers
To be clear, there’s nothing good about an outlet plate, especially a metal one coming loose and at best putting the ground up or down is a prayer to the angels at best.
Can't get a IP address on my Aurender W20
Reset all your devices in between just to be sure. Sometimes they keep track of downstream MAC addresses and/or act like a NAT unexpectedly or something about the route is wonky.  Also reset your DHCP provider (i.e. your router).
Good outlet for amplifiers
BTW, from experience, I’m completely against the use of rhodium plated anything in audio for two reasons: It’s not a very good conductor and it’s too hard. I’ve used rhodium plated items in everything from RCA plugs to AC. You’d think hard was go...
Good outlet for amplifiers
PS - The info I posted above related to ground pin location is not related to the NEC but falls under the category of electrician's wisdom.
Good outlet for amplifiers
I saw the ground on top in an industrial facility I was working at in North Carlolina for a couple of weeks. I asked around and nobody knew why. Otherwise, I see it on the bottom.   @carlsbad2 - From my reading long ago the issue may have to d...
Thoughts on Speakers for a Small Audio/Video Room
My one bit of advice btw is treat the ceiling. A panel or two up there, white perhaps, will be amazing. Use the AM Acoustics room mode simulator to see what problems you have, where they will be and what frequency.  It may help with placement and...
