Help! Power question
Call an electrician. There is probably a loose lug connection in the meter pan or main panel on one of the phases.
What is an acceptable level of transformer hum on a Krell S300i?
If the hum appears to be greater than 60 hz and floating the ground does not help, it could very well be the power supply capacitors need replacing.
Shipping damage...what would cause capacitors to leak?
That may not be a capacitor and instead could be melted rubber. Is there any sound dampening material in the chassis? The only sure way to know is for a tech to look at it.Capacitors can withstand temperatures to 85C or higher. I doubt the tempera...
Streaming Music and being able to keep them as your personel files
You may want to contact Tidal support and ask them how to transfer their property onto your laptop.  The only way I know of is to purchase the tracks/albums you want to keep after your subscription.
Building a listening room from scratch
I would flatten the ceiling 9 feet above the floor to a) get rid of the sharp corner for acoustic purposes and b) to allow for space for the rafter air space insulation to empty into, with louvers on each end... instead of a ridge vent.
Pre amps cost vs. value ... what I discovered last month.
I would want to know if the Boulder is performing to spec before I agree with your cost vs value assessment.
Anyone know the fuse rating/size used in a Chord 2Qute?
Could be there is no removable fuse, especially  if the power is supplied by a wall wart instead of a conventional power cord.
Converting cd's to high resolution audio
Another way is to use dBpoweramp to rip CD's onto your computer or external hard drive. dB converts the rip directly to FLAC, WAV, AIFF or mp3.What I do is rip 16/44.1 cd's directly to wav. For online purchases, I download flac files to my interna...
MQA and the "Pre Ring - Post Ring" Hoax
IMO, it's not the filter ringing or time smearing that MQA uses to justify its existence -- it's the fact that my internet speed is over 60 Mbps and a 24/192 file needs 4.6 Mbps to stream so I see no reason for MQA to be even economically viable a...
Minimum recommended amplification requirements and amplifier matching
I would recommend a preamp with a gain of over 20 with a tube amp. My CAT preamp with a gain of 26 drives my 3 watt 2A3 amp to realistic levels connected to a pair of 86 db Thiel 3.6's. Of course that applies to things like solo instrument and cha...
Ideas on amp for Thiel
Having a pair of 3.6's for over twenty years... if you find a Mark Levinson 23.5, go for it.
Decibel question
The iPhone case may cover the microphone, lowering the actual SPL so I wouldn't trust that for accuracy.
Torus RM20 Idle Power Consumption
When a power product claims no current limitation it means, among other things, the unit itself presents no load in series or parallel with the wall outlet and amplifier. In addition to what folkfreak said, the unit will not even consume power of ...
re capping
When it's time to change the power supply caps, your amp will let you know with a loss of bass definition soon followed by buzzing/humming. Until then, leave it alone if it works and there is no sign of physical damage.
Should I re-rip?
While there is no difference between flac and wav and I cannot hear a difference no matter how hard I try, I can tell you from my experience some flac files 24/96 and 24/192 give me listening fatigue. For the heck of it, I converted them to wave a...
