Why 432hz Tuning?
I was just watching this yesterday... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rt3EAPDn-Ug
Why Do Cables Matter?
Here’s an analogy. Suppose you have to run 100 feet of hose to a lawn sprinkler from a hose bib. The instructions say to use a 1-inch diameter hose for that length of run in order for the sprinkler to spray the design water pattern. You say that d...
Amplifier circuitry-4 ohm vs 8 ohm
Each tap is a secondary winding on the output transformer. The primary voltage is transferred to each of the 8-ohm and 4-ohm secondary windings equally. The impedance is set by the turns ratio of wires between the primary and the 4 ohm tap, and th...
Mcintosh 2301 tube amplifier, how much power used from the wall?
If the amp draws 5.5 amps at 120 volts then 660 watts is the most that can be converted to heat (energy is always conserved). That can mean, for example, you will need an additional 2,250 btu/hr for a room air conditioner just to remove the heat f...
Primaluna 300 integrated running 6L6 with high bias switch
I doubt the plate voltage changes. That switch most likely changes the voltage to the power tube grid. Much easier -- and much safer -- to do it that way.
A ridiculously cheap cable riser.
Change the make and model to Delizia Musicale Acensione Suprema, add another $5k for distributor markup and now we're talking Absolute Sound Editor's Choice territory.
Speaker wire question?
18 wire is good for 17 amps max and about three amps for power transmission. That battery spec indicates a power consumption of 0.1kwh which is the same as a 100 watt bulb on for an hour. So the amperage drawn is less than one amp. Appears that ev...
Aurender N10 connection with the network
It sounded like it was a glitch caused by a computer virus, aka Windows 10.
Question about wpc on tube amps
A statement such as 10 watts of tube amp power equals 100 watts of SS power is from a marketing textbook and not a physics or engineering text. Power is consumed by a load -- a light bulb, toaster, motor, space heater... or a transducer (loudspea...
Krell KSA 200s ground hum
A common way of wiring the RCA jack on amplifiers is to connect the RCA ground to both the signal ground and the chassis. The chassis ground connection is isolated through a filter with low value cap. The problem then could be the RCA jack is touc...
ML No532 Amp Repair
Those service centers have the ML schematics and parts. Pyramid's owner, I believe, worked for the old Mark Levinson brand. Any one would be a far better choice than finding a repair center on your own. When an amp causes a popping sound it's DC ...
What does Nominal Impedance mean?
Incidentally I have never seen a speaker whose impedence measures a flat 2.5-3 ohms over 100-10k Hz.  Have you? I have the Thiel 3.6's. From Stereophile:
What does Nominal Impedance mean?
Nominal means "in name only" and has little to do with the actual impedance of the speaker. That’s why it’s confusing. The speaker impedance is measured across the frequency band and someone at the speaker company looks at it and says hmmm... that...
The "audiophile gear" I REALLY need is a damn house.
Headphones. Good ones, along with a top notch amp and dac. You'll never go back to a mid level two channel system again.
Anyone know what would cause an amp to cut out briefly?
Or it's a manufacturing defect. It's a symptom of a joint that wasn't soldered. First place to check is where the B+ splits to the power tube plates.
