PS Audio Power Plant Premier Issue With PS Audio, I've found they will refurbish your PPP for probably not too much dough. I had a P-300 they rebuilt for $250, and it was like new.Get in touch with Mayoura at PSA, she'll take good care of you.
Tannoy Speakers & Bi-wiring Hello Red,My experience may be different than others, but I have found there is little to be gained by simply bi-wiring. If you were to bi-amp, then you may expect real benefit from properly bi-amped Tannoys.Best regards,Dan
Tannoy Speaker Cable Synergy A couple of weeks ago, I switched to Auditorium A23 speaker cables. They were designed to be used with Shindo equipment, low-power amps and high sensitivity speakers. They are excellent, and reasonably priced, 3 meters was $1180, with shipping pai...
To Tube or not to Tube...... Ebuzz, I was in the same position as you, very curious about tube amps. That led me to change speakers, from Dynaudio Contour 5.4's, to 12" custom built Tannoys.I briefly tried a Sophia Baby amp, which I liked, but I needed to go further. I purcha...
Mechanical Hum from Class A Amplifier Clayton I would think both amps should have similar characteristics in the noise floor. I had a Plinius amp that had two large toroid trannies that made a hum, and it had a hiss in both channels. It was just a big, powerful amp, that was noisier than most...
Connection help If your pre has a tape out connection, you can use that. Or an auxillary output. If none of the above, you can use a "Y" connector to get the signal to your receiver.Good luck.
Where do the tubes go? My reply is, for the most part, good tube and good SS have more in common than not. In my case, I use a transformer-based passive line stage, a tube phono pre, and tube power amp(s).It was not until I built suitable speakers for SET amps, that I r...
MC cart rebuild frequency: a question for you I agree, the wear on carts happens very gradually. I didn't realize how much wear had occurred on my Dynavector XX2MKII, until I was having problems tracking RR's Doug McLeod's "There's A Time". I even called Reference Recordings to ask them about...
arm choices for a Garrard 401 On my Garrard 401, I'm using a Dynavector 501 arm, which I purchased here on A'gon for $1300. It has worked very well with all the cartrridges I've used with it.Zu Denon 103R, Acutex M320 STR, and Dynavector XX2MKII have all worked very well. With...
Cost no object tonearm for DL-103 I have a Zu Denon 103R that I've had the ESCCO mods done on (sapphire cantilever, Paratrace stylus), and used in conjunction with a Dynavector 501 arm, has worked out to be a great combination. The matchup was a good one before the mods, but they t...
Anti static guns Doug, my Zerostat never did work right. I managed to get it open, I discovered the two halves are not glued together.Inside is a small cylinder with a lever connected to it. There is a locknut that is used to set the adjustment on it. I found ther...
Audio Note Kit 1 300b Typically, this type of amp will require high sensitivity speakers, with high impedence.Tannoy Dual Concentrics work well with my SET 300B. There are many such speakers that can be used, such as Audio Note's own speakers.Regards,Dan
Dynavector P75 Mk ii I've had both of these preamps, your idea of the GCPH being better is IME, the better sounding unit.I then moved on to the Simaudio Moon LP 5.3, with outboard power supply. That was much better, but I wound up selling it to someone with the Dyna P...
Turntables and power conditioners? I use a power regenerator to control the voltage to my turntable. That way, I get voltage control, and cleaner power for the rest of my system, instead of a separate, and costly, turntable power supply.
KEF Speaker recone vs replacement I would give Speakerex a call. They can repair just about any driver you can name, and sell surround kits for them as well.I reconed my Tannoy HPD 315 drivers, it was not that difficult.Good luck,Dan |
