Tubes vs Solid State - Imaging, Soundstaging, 3D From my somewhat limited experience with tube amps, I have found a definite difference in what tubes you are using in any given device. In my two current amps, I have gone to almost all NOS tubes, Telefunken small tubes in my VAC, and Mullard XF2 E...
Best vintage Tannoy for rock? I ordered "Sextet" yesterday. I was a bit disappointed it wasn't available on vinyl, but it will sound great anyway. Thanks guys!Dan
Best vintage Tannoy for rock? Thank Iso,I'v been curoius about Carla Bley for years, I'll give "Sextet" a try. Thanks!Dan
Best vintage Tannoy for rock? Yes, yes, yes!I feel it! Like an old time revival meeting!Fired up the system last night, listening to vinyl through the SET 300B, and had to use my better judgement, and finally shut it down at 3:00 a.m.Played some rock, Gaucho by Steely Dan, and...
Best vintage Tannoy for rock? Kiddman,I just reviewed some older threads I participated in, and to my chagrin, I realized I have corresponded with you, and other participants in this thread, before. My memory is quite suspect, if it had done its job, I wouldn't have seen the ne...
Best vintage Tannoy for rock? Kiddman, Tonyjack,Unfortunately, I was never able to meet Dr. Loesch, but was lucky enough to become friends with a man that had grown up with him, and were lifetime friends. On my behalf, he asked Dr. Arthur for a crossover design for my project T...
Best vintage Tannoy for rock? Kiddman, with all due repect, you would have to hear my Tannoys before you pass judgement. Mine are 12" HPD's, and have been reconed with hard edge surrounds. The crossovers were designed for me by Dr. Arthur Loesch of Tempo Electric, and consist o...
Best vintage Tannoy for rock? From my long experience with Tannoys, I have found they are not partial to any genre of music, they are excellent with any music you choose.I've had MG's and HPD's, it makes no difference. Just enjoy.Regards,Dan
Reissue EL34, Mullard vs. JJ I need to add to my previous post, I also have reissue Gold Lion KT 77's, they would be no.3 on my list, but are not nearly as good as the NOS Mullards.Dan
Reissue EL34, Mullard vs. JJ I just asked pretty much the same question. I tried some loner Fatboy tubes NOS (6CA7), and I went through all the sets of EL 34 tubes I had on hand. I wound up purchasing some NOS Mullard EL 34's.Another tube that impressed me was some Winged C E...
Synergistic Research MPC plugged in 24/7? I've had seven of them plugged in 24/7 for 8-10 years with no issues. Yours is the first one I've heard of going bad, I'm sure there must be others. I don't worry about it.Dan
Would Like To Hear From Strain Gauge Owners Dear Peter,I have been following with some interest your discourse re your Strain Gauge cartridge. I find some of the comments made, on this thread, and others on the same subject, are out of line, and off-base.For myself, I just want to thank you...
Waaaah. Snapped off my cantilever. I recall the amount for a factory repair of an XX2MKII was $975, but that was a couple of years ago. I can't see any reason to spend that much, when the end result for a SS retip is a better sounding cartridge than the factory retip.Dan
Waaaah. Snapped off my cantilever. I just got my XX2MKII back from Soundsmith, where I had their best retip done. Without a doubt, it is a much better sounding cartridge now than even when it was new.As Peter said, there is a long turnaround with Soundsmith (three months), but, in ...
EL 34 question I've got a line on some 6ca7 Fatboys, I'm going to give them a try. There's no question, the SET 300B is my go-to amp (system sounds its best in forty five years of trying).I like having an alternative to turn to, for variation, and for back-up. Th... |
