Seeking the Ultimate Reference for Tubes
Every tube-o-phile should have a copy of the General Electric Tube Manual on hand for verifying operating voltages, transconductance, current draw . . . of the vast majority of receiving tubes.
John Strohbeen from Ohm Acoustics passed away
I had a phone conversation with John some years ago. I told him about my find at Goodwill of a pair of Sound Cylinders for a song! John was surprised and remarked that they typically sold used for around $1200/pair! I still have them in use and wi...
I want to give away my Audio Research D-52
Bad idea to encase parts of the circuitry in resin or epoxy! How stupid can the designers be! Something goes wrong and all you have is a door stop! I might have read a positive review of the D52 way back when in TAS.
Happy Audiophile Day!

Warm vs Revealing—the struggle for balance
@retrocrownfan +1! The 12" baffle for an even transition between bass and mids has been largely overlooked by speaker designers over the past few decades. Skinny may be "in" for gals but it makes for problematic speakers!
Question about suitable fuse metals
Why not use silver slugs! Lower resistance than gold, copper or - God help us - titanium. Don't forget to try some vanadium - used in my steak knife!
Need some help picking my first MC Cartridge
I don't think that going from MP300 to MP500 is much of an improvement! While getting a good LOMC cartridge certainly is!

Squeaky Crosley CR66 turntable
Crosley's are junk! Even a lowly MCS belt-drive with a P - mount cartridge is far better!
Need some help picking my first MC Cartridge
On the Ariston RD11S I have the Denon 103 on a Grace 707 arm. I have several 103's in reserve, including a rare gold-body 50 year commemorative version. Other Denon's I have are the 301 and the 304.  They are good sounding reliable mc cartridges.
Need some help picking my first MC Cartridge
Low output mc cartridges have always been preferred over high output types. Lower moving mass gives them superior transient and tracking response. I had the Sumiko Blue Point high output mc in use for a while but didn’t like it and went back to th...
Need some help picking my first MC Cartridge
The Hana SL is a very good recommendation at ~$750. It is low output with a superior Shibata stylus (important). It needs a gain of about 60db for best signal- to-noise performance. That gain can be had from an active stage or a transformer. Since...
Jitter Question on Dual Deck CDR
@gboren +1 Thank you for a such a cogent response! With today's proliferation of expensive CD transports and the claim that some sound "better" than others your answer should give makers of such claims to pause!
