ABX testing with AQ Dragon power cords @curiousjim Think you tagged the wrong person here! haha
Jazz for aficionados @curiousjim Thanks. Maybe if I get some free time I can digitize it and upload it to Youtube. (No promises)
Jazz for aficionados Got a small stack of new records last week. Working through cleaning them. So far I'm loving this one. :)
How often, and how, do you clean your stylus? Almost never. My cleaning process leaves my records dirt/dust free and the records are always stored in a Diskeeper sleeve. Once in a blue moon I use Blu Tack but there is never anything left on it. Viewing under a microscope confirms this. I ...
MC-MM-MI CARTRIDGES . DO YOU KNOW WHICH HAS BETTER QUALITY PERFORMANCE? REALLY? @rauliruegas LOVE the Hana Umami Red. I also have a Soundsmith Paua which I consider to be on the same level. I think these carts are right in the sweet spot for price vs performance.
MC-MM-MI CARTRIDGES . DO YOU KNOW WHICH HAS BETTER QUALITY PERFORMANCE? REALLY? I've used LOMC, HOMC, MM and MI. All can sound great, but for my money given the suitable supporting equipment, LOMC is where it's at IMHO. But if you're going to put it through a subpar phono stage, you're defeating the purpose and probably bet...
Records not stored vertically for decades I've had records that were stored flat for months to years and never had an issues with them. I think as long as they weren't submitted to excessive heat or humidity they'll be fine.
Noir album recommendations Odds Against Tomorrow soundtrack. Odds Against Tomorrow
Turntable advice I went from a Hana ML to a Umami Red and the different was mind-blowing. Single biggest improvement I've ever heard in my vinyl system with the possible exception of a dedicated true ultrasonic record cleaner. I have nothing but good things to s...
Jazz for aficionados @curiousjim I bought a copy of Steve Gadd Band maybe 4-5 years ago and don't think I've even broken the shrink wrap yet! haha Guess I need to check it out.
Kind of Blue The one jazz artist I find myself going back to more than any other is Kenny Drew. Especially his recordings on the Steeplechase label, which itself is a goldmine of brilliant jazz recordings.
Are your record surfaces as silent as CDs? Mostly yes. But my cleaning is a bit "over-the-top", though obviously it doesn't repair physical damage. Fortunately that's not a common occurrence for me. But I'm happy with it so nothing else really matters. 😃
Starting a Classical Vinyl Music Collection Anyone who says a higher end ultrasonic cleaner did nothing for them was doing something wrong. The vast majority of my vinyl sounds nearly as quiet as a CD. As stated, you can't fix physical damage with one, but if you're using a good cart with...
Seeking Legit Cartridge Expert? I’m not claiming to be an expert, but I went from a Hana ML to a Umami Red and holy cow! I also bought a Soundsmith Paua at the same time and it’s equally impressive. I thought the ML as fantastic until I listened to the Umami, now I’d hate to go ...
Jazz for aficionados @mahgister @stuartk Lionel Hampton is another who grunts and groans nonstop. Love his music, but man it can be distracting at times! 😂 |
