Best preamp 2k or under, new or used
Backgroundblur, Yes, the Eastern Electric Avant is very good. I would encourage you to replace some tubes, you only have to do a few at first, maybe to a pair to match up with just input or better yet just one tube if you are using balanced inputs...

Eastern Electric Avant. Under 1500.00. Sounds good stock but you can tube roll and get even better performance. It has full function remote and has balanced connections. Very nice sounding and one of the best values I have heard in audio.
Best Integrated, period.
Interesting on the Krell. I always thought Krell stuff was to harsh or bright. I couldn't stand it, but it has been about 10 years since I have heard any of their gear. Maybe things are better in that regard?
What is a very nice sounding tube preamp?
I agree with Audiojan. The Eastern Electric Avant is a sensational preamp at it's price point, it really is. It has a very big soundstage, which I really like. For the money you can't go wrong.
Does this speaker exist?
Elac FS 247, 247 BE or 407s. Small footprint. HIFi Plus did a review of the 407s and one of the main things they mentioned was how good there were at low volumes.
Elac Loudspeakers?
Audiogon memeber "Maxen" went from the Focal Scalia Utopai lll to the Elac 607 CE. Hopefully he joins the thread with his insights.
Elac Loudspeakers?
I meant to say North American distributer has them in stock, not dealer. Just wanted to clear that up since there is more then one dealer, especially in Canada.
Elac Loudspeakers?
Well, since you brought it up, I have the 507s on order. But I have not heard it. The North American dealer has them in stock. So I will should be able to tell you how they sound compared to the 249BE. As for the 400 Series, HiFi Statement magazin...
Elac Loudspeakers?
The 249 Black Edition is VERY good. I have not heard and don't know the price, but have you looked into the new 400 Series from Elac? Looks interesting, I wonder how much of a step up it is from the 249BE's?
Elac Loudspeakers?
oohh, that sounds like fun. That is a great lineup. The thing with Elac is they can change a lot depending on what else is in the system. The same can be said about a lot of speaker lines, but IMO with Elac, that effect is more so. Hopefully the d...
Elac Loudspeakers?
Dayglow, just curious. How is your search going? Did you ever get a chance to listen to the 249s?
Simaudio Moon w5.3se
Yes, that makes sense. Thanks Winoguy.
Audio Research Reference 5SE reliability
I had a AR Ref 5 plugged into a PS Audo 300 PC and it burned up. That was my fault though. I didn't know it would work. AR took care of everything though.
Simaudio Moon w5.3se
I have heard/owned the W3 and W7. I liked the W3 better because it was warmer sounding. How about the W5.3 SE, is it warmer or is it like the newer trend towards more transparency and detail, which sounds great on well recorded material, but not s...
Elac Loudspeakers?
I listen to rock/pop and yes, Elac handles that genre very well. Before i had the Burmester, I had the new Primare amps, A32s and pre (Pre32) with the FS 249 BE's, they sounded great overall. The older Primare, which you have has a warmer sound, a...
