opinions on the Equi=Tech Wall Cabinet?
I don't have any personal experience, but a friend of mine in the high end audio/video installation business, always starts with getting proper power feed. If it is in the budget, he recommends the Equi-Tech panel. All I can say is that the system...
SRA VR vs. Ohio
It would seem reasonable to expect that the more one isolates components from vibration, the better. However, that is not always the case. To some extent, it is a matter of tuning the system to one's taste. I generally find that vibration control ...
Audio Note Gaku-on
I suppose that if one could afford either, money is not a factor, only personal preference. This stuff is unbelievably expensive.
Audio Note Gaku-on
The Gaku-On amps that I am familiar with are from Audionote (uk) and employ 211 tubes in a parallel single-ended configuration (two output tubes per channel). A local dealer had a pair, and, I believe, one customer owned something like three pairs...
Excellent review of CAPACITORS Must read
Given that my linestage uses the V-caps and my Audionote monoblocs use their silver caps, I should be in agreement with the ratings. But, even if we could all agree on what constitutes "best" sonic results, which parts best achieve that result woul...
why are most new releases going to four sides?
The LP market for current releases relies on audiophile purchases so sound quality is important. In order to squeeze more minutes onto a side, the grooves have to run closer to the label where sound quality suffers. Also, the grooves might have to...
best cd player redardless of price
I had the Naim 555 in my system for about two weeks (loan from a friend on vacation). That is a fantastic player. For substantially less, you can get a reasonably close approximation of that sound from the Naim CDS3. I own a CDS3/555PS (power supp...
Mark Levinson 26S: analog vs. digital preamplifier
Hi Elduende 14, The kind of volume control you are referring to are not "digital" in the way one usually uses that descriptor. They may have a digital readout, but, they work by having a digital logic circuit switch discrete resistors, such as tho...
Tranfiguration Orpheus description
I had an Orpheus in my system for about three weeks (loan from a friend), and I've heard it in two other systems I know very well. In all of these systems, this is a terrific cartridge. It sounds much more lively and engaging than the Temper W (a ...
Lyra Titan scarcity
I would bet that not too many Titans have seen the end of their life for their first stylus. Mine is still going strong after almost two years, and if my experience with a Helikon proves similar, there is still plenty of life left.I don't know wha...
CJ vs. BAT vs. THOR preamps, who's best?
Blindjim,I find both this and your thread on SET amps very interesting. Unlike other postings where someone would say, like you did, that they favor a "romantic" sound and something "darker" than neutral, you also follow up by saying what you have...
how do you know a bad tube?
Newbee, The act of turning off a component, often results in noise, without any component necessarily being defective. That is why one should not turn off sources or the linestage/preamp first, because any such transient "pop' will be amplified by...
how do you know a bad tube?
I don't know of any kind of simple and cheap tube tester that will reliably tell you when a tube is going bad. Most testers are not cheap and many require calibration and maintenance. Also, a tube can begin to go bad in ways that certain testers wi...
how do you know a bad tube?
You should have at least one extra set of tubes. That extra set will provide the tubes to swap and test for the bad unit. It also means your equipment is never out of commission just because a tube is going bad.
Exactpower Ep15a or PS-Audio p500
PS Audio has been advertising new power regenerators that are supposedly much more efficient (less energy loss as heat). You should look into that.I like the sound of Accuphase regenerators, which are pretty efficient, but they are quite expensive.
