Whole Lotta Led
I first saw them headline the first night of the Laurel Pop Festival in Laurel, MD in the summer of '69; to say that blew me away would be an understatement. Saw them in Syracuse in the early 70's and Oakland in '77, but I also went to a couple of...
It Was Twenty Years Ago Today!
I saw the James Gang open for Led Zeppelin in Syracuse in about 1970 or 71. That was not their first US tour; in fact, I'd seen them a couple years before that at the Laurel Pop Festival in Laurel, MD.  Starting around 2006, I started keeping a s...
What is the first thing you do when you unwrap a new vinyl record?
I give it a 6-minute cycle in my DeGritter with distilled water.
"Cleaning" Vinyl Makes It Worse Not Better!
@drbond + 1 - That's just what I do; distilled water in my DeGritter; works great!  @lewm + 1

@stuartk - not so much albums as individual songs; wish I could find that list I made up a few years ago of 'prettier Iron Maiden songs' as I had 6 or 7, but two I could suggest right offhand would be 'Still Life' off of the 'Piece of Mind' album,...

@stuartk - ah yes, that old bugaboo about categorizations - one person's metal is another person's hard rock and yet another person's 'classic rock'. I think it starts getting a bit silly after awhile; there must be at least 10 sub-genres just und...

@stuartk - Oh, I know you wouldn't, Stuart. I was just curious as to what themes you prefer for hard rock and metal, but now I see that this isn't really your preferred genre anyway. It's all good! Enjoy your week....
For fans of John McLaughlin and Mahavishnu Orchestra
Loved 'Inner Mounting Flame' and 'Birds of Fire' - some jazz guys at college turned me on to those; that's about as far as I get into 'fusion'. Only saw them once, on the tour where they co-headlined with Jeff Beck back in '75 or so.

@stuartk - out of curiosity, what themes do you think they should explore instead for aggressive music like this?

@kingbr - I've always loved the wordless singalong part of that song; they used to get the roadies up there to sing on that part, too....

@slaw - Completely agree about the Sadies; saw them open for Black Mountain in San Francisco about 20 years ago and was blown away; been a fan ever since. Such a tragedy about Dallas, RIP.

There is just some insane pedal steel going on by the great Buddy Cage on the New Riders of the Purple Sage song 'Death and Destruction'... .
Tinnitus
Dunno about tinnitus - I've had it for decades; it went along with my loss of high frequencies and I've worn hearing aids for over 20 years, and sleep has not been an issue for most of that time, but good sleep can help with many an ailment.

@musikcrayz - Interesting how pedal steel also worked their way into progressive rock. I've taken photos of both Steve Howe from Yes and David Gilmour from Pink Floyd playing pedal steel on stage; you can get a lot of interesting sounds out of it.
Tweak for BTE hearing aids
Thanks for a tip; I don't have any straws around at present but I do have BTE hearing aids; I'll give it a crack!
