Amps from the 1980's -- What gear holds up sonically? Reliably?
Hi Eric, I can't say I know 80's tube amps well. Currently using a Mesa Baron from 1995, still happy with it.It was a "light bulb" moment when I realized the reason I was disinterested with recorded music was due to cd's and solid state.  Fixed that!
Jerry Garcia, A Legacy?
Otherone, 312 times is impressive!  I don't quite get people who criticize Jerry's technique.  He was usually improvising, in a genre where few guitarists really do so (Clapton, SRV, Hendrix... the list is short.  Even BB King never improvised in ...
Amps from the 1980's -- What gear holds up sonically? Reliably?
It was solid state 80's amps that made me realize why I wasn't listening much any more.  Tubes ever since.
Isolation footers for amps
I found that the plain old rubber feet under my big tube amp worked better than any footer I tried.
I knew we were different
If you get chills from Coldplay, which the article referenced, your brain is definitely different.
Random question/ thoughts about stuff for sale here
not that many individuals selling here any more.
Synergistic Red Fuse ...
I tried fancy fuses, and thought I heard an improvement. When I put back glass Littlefuses, some time later, I heard no difference. The conclusions were obvious; I'm with Wolfie, Al and others.Presumably, every person on this thread has experiment...
Subpanel/Isolation Transformer/Dedicated Lines
I suspect an isolation transfer that large will make a lot of noise -  you probably want it far from your listening room.
ATC ACTIVE VS PASSIVE
PMC is comparable to ATC.
How much do large Vinyl collections go for these days?
I sold my opera collection, about 800 near mint records, for $75. The alternative was to donate them to the local opera. In other words, ime, opera records have almost no value.
How much do large Vinyl collections go for these days?
the price for collections is heavily discounted, compared to pricing records individually.  People willing to pay high prices are looking to fill in gaps in their own collections.  It's a lot of trouble to sell individual records!  Anyone willing ...
When and how did you, if at all, realize vinyl is better?
I had to spend quite a bit (vinyl rig is about $10K) before my vinyl rig beat digital, and I have not spent a comparable on digital.  I can't say I've ever heard a topline mbl or dcs system.  It isn't likely that I will ever spend $10k + on a dac,...
Price increase
it's not clear to me how many listings are really "New Today".  Lots of repeats from yesterday or earlier.  Many, if not most of those, seem to be dealers. If we could filter out the Ayon and Adona listings, the number of "new" listings might be q...
Question on hearing
and you were hearing great new music.  Not such a thrill to hear Stairway to Heaven or whatever for the ten thousandth time.  The present hardly compares to rock in the 60's to early 70's.  I doubt that age related hearing loss is much of a factor.
Resale value
"investing" in a child's future is not meant literally, It has some of the characteristics of investing, but not all.  It's an analogy. The parent doesn't expect to profit from it, it's a gift.    I'm looking at funding an Ivy League education rig...
