Sonnet Audio Morpheus
I think Srajan (Six Moons) brings a wonderful perspective -- but yes, his reviews can require some patience to parse... On my read, his main (or most important) points on the Pasithea are (1) like the Morpheus, it's a truly excellent preamp -- in...
Weiss 501 DAC
Agree with the other owner thoughts in this thread (clean, clear, dynamic). I listened this morning to the Weiss 501, Igor Levit's Piano Sonata No. 30 (Beethoven), which I just heard Levit play at Carnegie the other week. No stereo is going to mat...
750$ Intel NUC vs $6000 Aurender N200: I don't hear the difference
@lordmelton you make a great point, which is that you need to consider the server and your preferred DAC in tandem. The best input on my preferred DAC is AES and the best output on the Grimm is AES so that should be a good fit. Whereas it sounds l...
750$ Intel NUC vs $6000 Aurender N200: I don't hear the difference
@david_ten excellent point, and will do (may take me a few weeks). Switching power supplies can be controversial, but I’ve heard some excellent digital products that rely on them, like the Weiss and Meitner DACs (Mola Mola also uses a switching su...
750$ Intel NUC vs $6000 Aurender N200: I don't hear the difference
@essrand Got it, understood. I’ll be trying the Grimm soon at home, I’m looking forward to it. If the improvement is minimal or subtle, I’ll stick with my simple NUC equivalent (small green computer). The Grimm appealed to me because it’s brains ...
Musetec (LKS) MH-DA005 DAC
Sorry if already answered, but what kind of break-in period did folks experience?
750$ Intel NUC vs $6000 Aurender N200: I don't hear the difference
@essrand @ricky64  For clarity on the Grimm MU1 via USB -- that was the Part Time Audiophile review. The reviewer's point  is that ONLY the AES (and at some point the S/PDIF, maybe they've around done that) is an optimized output on the Grimm, i....
Musetec (LKS) MH-DA005 DAC
@melm Life is too short for online arguments with strangers. If I was rude, I apologize. I gave you push-back in this thread because I think it can be misleading to newcomers. While it's well and good to be enthusiastic about gear that you own -- ...
Musetec (LKS) MH-DA005 DAC
@melm I owned the Sonnet and I wrote about it here. You responded. You were riled up about the Stereophile review, because conspiracy, etc. Someone here prefers the Musetec to an outdated Holo Spring, and a guy who makes cables and listens with h...
Musetec (LKS) MH-DA005 DAC
In this $3k price range, seems like folks are very happy with the Musetec, the Sonnet Morpheus (i2s) and the latest edition of the Holo Spring (which is v3 I believe). I’ve only heard the Sonnet. Based on listener impressions, seems like the Muset...
Review: Holo May (L2) DAC and the Musetec Audio (LKS Audio) MH-DA005 DAC Compaired
@sns Are you just referring to Stereophile's measurement section, where there's a reference to the okto vs. the Weiss (similar implied resolution)? In the subjective portion of the okto, the Weiss is simply mentioned as one of the best-sounding an...
DAC Reviews - Headphones v Speakers
Thanks @soix - Makes sense then why serious head-fi folks go to forums dedicated to head-fi.
new Meitner MA3 hit the rack today
A quick post here to echo the thoughts from @73cuttysupreme - very few mentions of the Meitner MA3 on this board, or in the press generally. I had the chance to home audition it this weekend and it is stellar. 100% engagement with the music -- I f...
Weiss 501 DAC
P.S. This may be too obvious to mention on a website whose main purpose is the buying and selling of used audio gear, but if we're talking about relative value, the secondhand markets for the top Chinese DACs and N.A./Euro DACs are VERY different....
Weiss 501 DAC
@melm  Hi yes I agree -- there are always trade-offs. I think the modular nature of some DACs is a very attractive feature, but no it’s not a universally appealing solution. Companies like Bricasti and Ayre have shown over the years their commitme...
