Any audiophile use computer (MacBook) as your audio streaming source?
@yyzsantabarbara - the problem with Toslink is that a) it is limited to 24/96 and b) there is no error detection or correction like with USB. USB is way more modern, I am running 15 ft USB just fine, it is not worse than a twisted pair.
Dedicated CD Transport vs DAC
Quality DAC first. Besides, you can use DAC with 24/96 streaming rather than CD transport limited to 16/44 CDs. Sorry, haven't owned CD transport for like 15 years, everything is long ripped into lossless files.
The Low Volume Loudness Dilemma
Why not get Accuphase voicing EQ? At low, low $18K it probably has better quality than dbx.
The Low Volume Loudness Dilemma
@limomangus - it may as well fix it if room is not properly treated. May add some other problems, but perhaps OP music sounds good now. With some older material I rather use EQ and lose a bit of transparency than not enjoy it at all.
The Low Volume Loudness Dilemma
I think for that amount i'd build detached shed and treated it with proper acoustic materials like a recording studio.
Six DAC Comparison
Every DAC sounds different simply because each has different filter after the actual chip.
A brief review of GR Research Bully
@ozzy62 This is very subjective, my material may not be very "audiophile" :-). I would say, sound is clean and transparent. GR spends quite a bit of time on time alignment and off-axis response. The latter is actually very good. As compared to Pro...
Comparing Powerline Ethernet to WiFi for streaming audio
@soix transmission of files over networks is absolutely identical to music streams. There is no concept of jitter in network protocols. Or any loss. Are you mixing up primitive coax AES transmission with internet? Poorly designed non-correcting Re...
Comparing Powerline Ethernet to WiFi for streaming audio
Wow how much ADO about same bits. Is your WiFi not capable of copying Word files or printing documents? If it does, then there is no difference with Ethernet. Networks are designed to deliver information with zero loss. Over cables, satellite, fib...
Music server recommendations needed.
Frankly it is only worth ripping if something is not available in streaming. Rather than ripping 16/44 CD you can have 24/96 stream on Tidal... It has been a long time since I listened to any of my ripped CDs.
Any audiophile use computer (MacBook) as your audio streaming source?
@dcmnto - Paul Allen had absolutely zero to do with modern (or old) Windows. He left company (or, rather, was pushed out) long time ago. Never had any influence on OS design. Besides, since 25 years ago OS changed quite a bit.
Any audiophile use computer (MacBook) as your audio streaming source?
I primarily use Windows desktop as a source, but occasionally Macbook as well. Streamer is just a computer. And I am pretty sure Apple gear is much better designed than some ARM Linux box.
Is there a way to stream You-Tube music into a digital amp?
Airplay from your phone or tablet. If your amp is not Airplay ready, get one of those airplay devices with digital out on Amazon for $50.
Connect 2 USB-B, 1 pair Balanced Phono and 1 coax input to an Integrated Amp/DAC
It is possible to turn Mac into streamer so Roon will see it. Then you only need to connect Roon. OR turn Mac into Roon server? Do you really need two computers?
Are all streamers the same?
@audioman58 - depends on what you measure. Seat material won't affect 0-60. But it may affect sound of the car music system. On the other hand, brand of the car battery probably won't matter...
