Experiences Selling Stuff On Audiogon?
My experience here has been good, but the last few / several years I've been driven away because: High fees: higher than, and IN ADDITION TO, PayPal's, and The stifled communication between buyer & seller when you don't pay the fee up fron...
Amplifier Power tubes - important to sound?
Maybe I should’ve said do they impact the lower frequencies more? You own interesting speakers @emergingsoul Ok, I see. If you are jumping between types like from KT88 to KT90 / 120 / 150 then YES, it will usually have more notable impact on ...
Anyone trying out the Rogue Audio Dragon power amp?
The nCore modules it uses are superb, as I’ve enjoyed them in the NAD M22 (v1 and v2 sound largely the same to me). Being myself a longtime user of Rogue gear, and also co-admin of the Facebook Rogue fan group, I thought to try DragonN’s. Chatting...
Amplifier Power tubes - important to sound?
Do power tubes affect the full freq spectrum or is it more focused on below 250 hz? Of course it is a full spectrum impact. Who is claiming otherwise, and how? If I cared most about below 250Hz, I’d run solid state.
antique sound lab head
The ASL HEAD amps were popular in the early days of head-fi, early 2000’s. But interest in them dropped off like a ROCK as other manufacturers entered the headphone amp game (mid 2000s), and it was soon forgotten - like so many of the other early ...

Amplifier Power tubes - important to sound?
@darkblacksmoke  Lovely, entertaining read! Agree / relate with most of that - though I am a young kid in this hobby (mid 40s) and only caught the tail end of analog tech (film, tape, CRTs) in my youth. Thanks for clarifying on the Signature II. A...
Amplifier Power tubes - important to sound?
Curious, I read herein that the feedback level related to the amplifier is important to consider for purposes of evaluating whether it really makes much of a difference to tube roll power tubes. Anyone know why that would be? Further, I am biamp...
Upgrade From Clearaudio Satisfy CF to Tracer?
@knock1 Sorry, I didn’t mean to imply the Satisfy was magnetic bearing - it’s not, and it’s a reasonable choice on the entry Clearaudio tables. I realize the way I worded the comment may give that impression. What misfire? Never heard of anyone...
Step Up Transformers….Are they Worth the Trouble?
Don't worry, we will be careful not to enjoy our inferior SUT's too much. I will keep in my place realizing I enjoy NOISE not MUSIC!
Step Up Transformers….Are they Worth the Trouble?
@mdalton  Cool!! From my perspective, SUTs actually increase the Koetsu magic. But that hum is not "normal", even at the 30x / 29dB setting, and even with the volume turned up loud (my preferred setting lol). As least, it should not be invasive f...
Step Up Transformers….Are they Worth the Trouble?
With all else being equal (which it almost never is), core size can definitely have an impact on performance. Good luck getting an actual core weight sans all the casing, potting, etc. EAR MC-3 and MC-4 add weighting to the box so stiff audiophil...
Amplifier Power tubes - important to sound?
I don’t believe you. The 807 uses a top anode cap and a seven pin socket. It is not swappable with octal power tubes. I had some in my tube collection. I thought that was odd too. Maybe a weird typo? I’ve used a Williamson amplifier (pair of H...
Amplifier Power tubes - important to sound?
@darkblacksmoke The VAC amps are amazing. I also have an older statement 450S (no iQ) for my smaller 2nd system. Of all a system’s components - the big VAC power amps were by far my most fruitful "splurge". For every other component slot, I’v...
Amplifier Power tubes - important to sound?
I’ve always found power tubes more important to shaping the sound in ways that are meaningful to me. Small tubes can also be important to be sure, but a lot of times it’s an initial "wow!" impression, then over time I either tire of that variant o...
