Does EAR324 phono stage sound like tubes ?
Okay Dan, thanks very much for clarifying, and your comment on shortened life for E88CC/6922s in the 7DJ8 sockets makes sense. Based on listening, I also determined in short order that I didn't much care for the sound of 6922/6DJ8/E88CC tubes comp...
Does EAR324 phono stage sound like tubes ?
Dan: I'm not sure I follow you when you refer the higher voltage of the E88CC. That tube has less voltage than the PCC88(7 volts). You also say you tried the PCC88 in 6922 positions. Are you referring to 6922 positions in the EAR 88pb? Do you mean...
Does EAR324 phono stage sound like tubes ?
You're welcome, but a slight correction in the designation of the Telefunken: It's not PC88, but PCC88(aka 7DJ8 as I indicated above).
Does EAR324 phono stage sound like tubes ?
Nolitan: I think the Svetlana tubes that come stock with the 88pb are really pretty good sounding, but here are two fine alternatives that might satisfy: 1)The JJ Tesla 7DJ8s(my current favorites), which are balanced sounding and nicely detailed. ...
Tinny sound accompanying cello on recordings ?
Thank you very much for your concern, Doug. It's mostly a sensitivity to certain freqencies in the treble range in just a few instances involving, for example, the pitch of trumpets, piccolos, higher strings and higher pitched voices. Fortunately,I'...
Tinny sound accompanying cello on recordings ?
Though I did not realize it fully at the time I posted this thread, an emerging problem with tinnitus was the source of the problem. I've been able to adapt pretty well and still enjoy the music, even the cellos. I sincerely hope others with this ...
Single-wire biwire versus single-wire plus jumper
"I had been planning to run single wire to the mid-bass drivers and then jumper to treble." I get the most coherent, satisfying sound using this approach.
Amplifiers:A Keeper for Life. Do you know of one ?
Air Tight ATM-3 monoblocks. Owned them for over 20 years. Never had to replace a single part, except tubes. Got a fantastic deal on them new---less than one third of the price they're going for new today.
SME IV.Vi or V tonearm: different internal wiring
As of 2007, SME uses the Van den Hul monocrystal silver inside the V tonearm. One Audiogoner(Clabe)who had his V rewired by SME did not care for its sound, so undertook on his own the job of replacing it with Magnan Vi, and was very pleased with t...
SME IV.Vi or V tonearm: different internal wiring
To my ears, the Magnan Vi wire inside the SME IV.Vi offers more top end extension in contrast to the Van Den Hul wire found in the SME V. I also feel it helps provide a better balanced sound top to bottom. I'm ignorant, however, as to whether or n...
SME IV.Vi or V tonearm: different internal wiring
So that there is no misunderstanding, my comment above refers specifically to the Van Den Hul internal wiring and not the SME V arm itself.
SME IV.Vi or V tonearm: different internal wiring
Actually, I would never think of tampering with the arm myself. If something has to be done, it will be taken care of by someone who's in the business of dealing with rewiring arms. I've also had both the V and IV.Vi, and like you, have preferred ...
KCI Silkworm+ VS Gabriel Gold interconnects
My ears agree with Arthur's. The combination of Silkworm+ interconnect and Purist Proteus Provectus tonearm cable in my system helps deliver the most natural/realistic sound I've ever heard from amplified music.
Which purist interconnect??
Though I have used and still own the very fine Cardas Golden Reference tonearm cable, once I acquired the Purist Proteus Provectus tc, I had no desire to go back. The combined comments of Mb9061 and Nolitan pretty much tell it like it is with the ...
Moving from mm to mc
I also own the EAR 88PB phono preamp, and believe the stock power cord that comes with it is a very good one, though for quite some time I've been running the Wegrzyn Copper Slam with it. In my system, the Wegrzyn helps impart a spacious, slightly ...
