Solid State Preamp to replace tube unit
Another vote for Ayre.  That's the solid state unit I'd consider if I decided to switch from tubes.
In the sand box
Years ago there was a product that was a sand box with a shelf fitted on top of the sand (I think that was made by Bright Star, as bdp 24 mentions).  I used a pair under my Jadis amplifiers, they were effective at isolating the amps from floor vib...
Where to find record cleaning platter?
Oops, never mind, you posted while I was typing.
Where to find record cleaning platter?
Music Direct has a product called Spin Clean which is similar to the device that I believe you were thinking of.
Seeking Hi-Fi DJ for Daughter's Wedding.
+1 russ69.  I have yet to hear anything high fidelity from a DJ at a wedding.  The kids dancing at the wedding don't care about high fidelity sound, they want it loud with gut-thumping (mid)bass.  I'd rather get a good band, but ultimately this sh...
What tube pre with Quicksilver V4 monos
I'd suggest a Quicksilver preamp, I heard the combination years ago at Audio Connection and it was terrific.  You might check with John Ruttan at Audio Connection, he knows Quicksilver products very well.
New speakers for a new start?
If you want to move around the room while you listen I think you might like an omnidirectional speaker like the MBL 101s (most recent versions or even earlier), provided you have the amplifier that can drive them.  They check most of your boxes of...
Soft dome tweeter replacement for Thiel 3.6s
If you haven't already, you should post this on jafant's Thiel Owners thread.  Lots of experience there.
What are the circular discs people use on components?
Are you referring to the Combak tuning disks that were popular back in the 80s and 90s (and for all I know, today)?  They were gold-colored circular discs.  They did not damp things, but supposedly tuned resonances to a different frequency.
subwoofers
If the preamp has a tape out or a second set of outputs, you could use those, provided that your sub has a separate volume control.
Classical Music for Aficionados
I've always liked Pinnock's Brandenbergs with the English Concert, although there are many fine ones out there.  I like the energy they project in their performances.  It's interesting to me how much the original instruments versions that now seem...
Songs that reference audio equipment
Billy Joel, It's Still Rock and Roll to Me.
Limiting a full range driver
It seems to me that you're running the Ref 3As full range without a sub.  Before you go adding filters and subs, have you experimented with moving the speakers around in the room to see if you can smooth out the tonal balance that way?
My Four Favorite SS Amps
I believe he was referring to Vandersteen amps driven by a CAT preamp; I initially did ther same doubletake as you.
The Sound Quality Of Commercially Pre-Recorded Reel-To-Reel Albums
My main experience with a pre-recorded tape was when Harry Weisfeld played the Mercury recording of Gershwin's Concerto in F, which I owned in its original vinyl version.  It was the first time I had heard the conclusion of the piece without any d...
