Fave IC between SUT and Phono Pre...
I have played with a couple of step up transformers and have had the same problem with both: the interconnect between the step up and the preamplifier is too long, too heavy, and too stiff. I am going to a Kimber model that is 18 inches long, ligh...
Do they make a quiet great sounding phono pre amp??
If you want silent backgrounds like that of digital go solid state. Tubes have an allure, but at a cost. Many reviews are done by tube aficionados that blithely over look reduced (poor) bass and tube noise. Many of them are also in the late stages...
Do they make a quiet great sounding phono pre amp??
Graham Slee from the U.K.. His best stuff is thousands less than anything comparable. Avid, Luxman,Sutherland, and many others make good, reliable and quiet gear.
AM and FM antenna systems
There are some excellent indoor antennas that won't break the bank that will require a few feet of cable and a stable place to rest. GOOGLE indoor antennas. FM antennas are much easier to find than AM units.
Anti skating on Michell Tecnodec - Yes No Maybe ?
My first playground was an AR turntable with a REGA RB 300 tonearm with a Shure Ultra 500 cartridge. When I had a dealer play with it he forgot to set up the antiskate. It sounded shrill without a bottom end ... it sounded rotten. I put the anti-s...
Michell Gyro SE + SME IV upgrade path
I have a fully modified Michell Gyro. Twin spiders, the Orbe platter and clamp, and the H.R. power supply. I run an SME V on it and use it with a mono cartridge exclusively. I love it and I am not suffering any audiophile anxiety at all. A good tu...
OK...I've ditched my mono cartridge
I run two turntables. One for two channel, and another as a dedicated mono playback system. I run an Audio Technica AT 33 mono on a Michell Orbe turntable with a SME V tone arm, sans damping fluid. Hooked up to a solid state phono pre-amplifier wi...
Help with picking the right phono pre for the rest of my system please!
If this is your first foray with high end vinyl a good record cleaning machine such as a Loricraft or a Keith Monks will help out any vinyl rig. Using good fluids for at least 2 minutes per side and a good distilled water rinse afterwards will bri...
Overfilled sillicon on a basis vector tonearm
I hate stories like this. I would strongly recommend that your friend gets a hold of a good dealer or the manufacturer: yesterday.
Oracle Paris MK5 VS REGA Rp8?
I would not overlook a Michell turntable. From a basic Technodec, to the Gyrodec, to a full blown Orbe SE, they are very good turntables. Add a H.R. power supply to the Gyrodec or Technodec, and speed will not be an issue. Once set up they will ju...
Needle just gets stuck in a particular spot of the record ! What is going on?
You have not mentioned what kind of RCM you are using but may I suggest taking your brush and going the opposite direction with the cleaning fluid and the rinse. If you have access to a Spin Clean record cleaner, this is one of those times that the...
Canary Audio CA-430 MK-II MM/MC PHONO PREAMPLIFIE
I find it odd that such a small boutique manufacturer of tube gear has 4 phono units for sale simultaneously. Some first generation 430's, others mark ii's.The serial numbers are all very close as well. I wonder what gives? Christmas crunch,  a ch...
Belles 28a or 10a Preamps
I have a Belles 28A pre amplifier. I purchased it used. The power cord and the phono plugs that came with the pre amplifier were missing so I had to purchase them. With a 50 VA power transformer and 400 000 microfarads of capacitance please be awa...
