Is a Bryston 3B SST2 enough for Magnepan 3.7i or 20.7?
OK, I’ve read this thread and here are my thoughts, simple as they may be. A 100W capable amp and a 200W capable amp will output the same amount of bass at the same wattage. Notice I have used the word "capable," as it is the "maximum" wattage the...
New Joseph Audio Pulsar Graphene 2
FYI, I believe that Jeff will be offering an upgrade path for owners of the Perspectives. He told me already that he will be doing that for current owners of Pulsars. So, I don't think that many folks will be trading in their JA's any time soon.
Got a BAT VK-225se ... Holy Moly!
Thanks to all for the good wishes. The sound of the BAT combo is awesome and I’m having a huge blast. The VK-225se has amazing punch and control; it is a wonderful amp and I am very pleased with it. Not cheap, but this is a prime example of paying...

@mrdecibel ...I returned the Sachs preamp. There was some damage to the unit due to shipping, and the wait in the queue was too long. Don was great and gave me a full refund. However, I was able to hear the Sachs preamp for a couple of hours and i...
Pulsars and the Mythical Armchair Speaker Maker
You know, kenjit's entire theory is analogous to representing yourself in court, or performing a homemade appendectomy ... neither is a good idea, particularly if you either don't know what you're doing or are not inclined to learn. Jeff's speaker...
Pulsars and the Mythical Armchair Speaker Maker
Based on kenjit’s argument, homes, cars, restaurant food, and most every other item should be valued solely on the cost of component parts. That scenario is unrealistic since most folks do not have the skills to roll their own.

@erik-squires ... Exactly! Bravo and well said.

"theres no evidence these speakers are better than a diy pair at a fraction of the cost. or is there?"This line of reasoning makes little sense. Most anything one makes themselves will be cheaper than that made by someone else.
Supratek or Don Sachs - which way to go?
I have heard Don's preamp and it sounds really great. Also, he is a very nice and fair guy, who is happy to answer questions promptly.

@erik_squires ... Well, we certainly disagree on the purported simplicity of the xover and Jeff’s integrity. Here’s a link to the initial patent application for the xover by Modafferi ...https://patents.justia.com/patent/7085389It doesn’t appear t...

If Jeff says that graphene covers the cones, then I would take that to be the truth. I have found Jeff to be an honest and forthright guy, and I believe his representations without hesitation.

@roxy54 ... prices on many consumer items have risen significantly in recent years. With the Pulsars, as with all of Jeff’s products, the high quality is there. So, I understand well that one gets what they pay for. This hobby has some crazy price...

I think John Atkinson said that SP planned to do a follow up on the new Pulsars. Presuming that he does his typical measurements, we should be able to compare both versions. I’m not sure that the graphene is the big deal here ... I think it’s prob...

No ... he mentioned the Pulsars only.

It’s approximately a 15% increase over the original Pulsars. So, when one factors in costs of labor, materials, R&D, marketing, distribution, etc., it’s really not too bad, IMHO. Besides, the market will determine whether the price is right.
