Metal or Carbon Resistors - Which is better? I too would be wary of using a passive pre with 300B. As for 300B lack of dynamics, depends on power supply and speakers used with, I have absolutely no issues with my monoblocks, each has equivalent power supply to what I see in many stereo 300B....
Metal or Carbon Resistors - Which is better? I'd choose metal film in places like power supplies, more likely to choose carbon in signal path. For most mods I've been using Takman carbon film and/or Texas Components TX 2575 naked bulk metal foils, Takman combo of warmer voicing and precision...
Seeking horn array loudspeakers with a maximum price of $17,500.00 per pair. Horns with 300B tube SET, glorious!
Are there any stand alone servers, that do NOT have a streaming function? A NAS (network attached storage) is a server, I employ one for cd rips storage. Not surprised you can't find a dedicated server, what's the point, you need a streamer for streams, the server is only going to store local files like cd rips. ...
Best way to dampen a micro-vibrating Printed Circuit Board inside an amp? Thanks! @pindac is correct, there are any number of companies concerned with this, I presume they did due diligence. My Joule Electra pre did this with signal board containing tube sockets, I could see how this could reduce tube microphonics.
TOSLINK Optical vs Coaxial for CD transport to DAC OP mentioned using Toslink, this is perhaps the worst interface for dac. Don't confuse this with optical networking, two entirely different things. Only streaming dacs will have optical network input.
Last night the Music took over…. Between other obligations and being out of town hadn't listened to my system going on three weeks, having withdrawals. I built many systems over decades, kept an audio journal for most of that time. There are times when I'll go through those ...
Finally! I Made An Informed Choice Going all fiber can be a good thing, not all fiber created equal. All network equipment should be powered via LPS, quality fiber cable, transceivers all make a difference. If I had fiber IPS I'd not be doing an conversion to LAN/ethernet cable. ...
Are you operating in the correct SPL window for high-fidelity listening? @budjoe Good that someone else pays attention to listening room noise floors, I rarely observe anyone paying attention to this. There are means to lowering listening room noise floors, attending to this means lower volume levels required to hear l...
Network Acoustics ENO filter I don't understand the duplication of filters when you already have the JCAT net card. I also use the XE card in my custom build server, absolutely no need for further net filtering. You can improve the XE further with external power via LPS and n...
Best way to dampen a micro-vibrating Printed Circuit Board inside an amp? Thanks! You'd have to dismount from chassis, support with sorbothane or some other substance. My previous pre, Joule Electra floated board in like manner.
Improve RFI As previously posted, a Trifield EMF meter is indispensable for finding sources of RFI. Routers with wifi the worst, hard drives and transformers can be pretty bad.
Are you operating in the correct SPL window for high-fidelity listening? Depends much on ambient noise level, lower levels mean one can hear deeply into recording at lower volume levels.. I'm late night listener when ambient noise levels generally lower, so 70's is my usual range.
Great recordings with great harmonies from 1960s Brian was greatly influenced by "The Four Freshmen", they are good. "Peter, Paul & Mary" , "Seekers", "Simon & Garfunkel", "The Vogues", "The Tokens", "Anita Kerr Singers", "Ray Charles Singers". These just some of the great harmonies Bria...
A controversial takes on low cost speakers with a lesson... I doubt a curious budding audiophile going to learn much from this, I'd hope they discovered what this guy discovered far sooner into the journey. |
