Passive + Buffer need help I strongly second Dejanm's advice--listen first.
Power Cables which take the soundstage back Update. After 6 glasses of the 2006 Trotanoy Pomerol Kathy Bates looks like Gisele Bundchen.
A great linestage/preamp "makes" a great system Emorrisiv, google "lightspeed preamp." I don't have one myself, but it has a following among the minimalist crowd. I tried the direct connection myself and was most impressed by the results.
Power Cables which take the soundstage back Damn, I got Kathy Bates. It must be true what they say about system synergy.
Power Cables which take the soundstage back Tpreaves gave me an idea, so this evening I dug out a bottle of Lancer's Rose, wrapped a Nordost power cord around it, and poured a glass--unbelievable: out came a 2006 Trotanoy, Pomerol! Later tonight I'm gonna Nordost the wife; stay tuned . . .
Is weight really mater? Tvad or anyone: are heat sinks no longer an issue? Before oil went through the roof in the late 70s, upper end consumer amps weighed a ton; I've got Kenwood Supreme 600 from '77 that's 60 lbs: dual mono transformers and serious sinks. Has new tech...
Bi amping my Vonschwikert VR4jrs There are lots of great choices out there, and a quick search through the archives will give you a sense of the amps you could get for 1500 or less. I've been very happy with a pair of Will Vincent's ("autospec") restored Dynaco mk iiis, which com...

Bi amping my Vonschwikert VR4jrs I'm currently bi-amping a pair of vr4 hse's, with a 175wpc amp for bass units and 60 watt Dyna mk iiis on the mids/tweets, with very good results. The ss power amp has volume pots which makes it easier (They're set between "4" and "5"), but if you...
Most beneficial change . Agree with Macdadtexas: speakers. I would audition some good used floorstanders, with a dynamic range that approaches 25 hz on the bottom end if possible; and there are lots of great ones to choose from, though I don't know your budget. Good luck.
Upgrading wall outlets Bob bundus:"ALL DOUBTING THOMAS'S SOUND THE SAME"I take it as a compliment to be aligned with Doubting Thomas, but your analogy is nevertheless a particularly felicitous one, since our conflict--friendly, I hope--does appear to pit the religious a...

Upgrading wall outlets It sounds better for the same reason that your car drives better after you wash it, for the same reason you're more likely to buy a house if you smell bread being baked in it, and for the same reason your impression of someone is dramatically diff...
Why manufactures donĀ“t burn in their amps and ... "this hobby is so subjective that when you have 2 audiophiles in a room, you will get three opinions."That's nonsense. You will get four opinions. |
