Aesthetix IO Eclipse
Hi Rushton, while I'm not in the immediate market for an Io, I've had a peruse of the owners manual and was surprised by the unusually long warm-up before use. Specifically, I'm referring to these instructions:A. Turn power on.B. Wait at least fif...
Denon Dl-103r is it for real?
04-21-12: GandmeI searched for the Audio technica AT 33-EV and it is priced $200 more than the Denon 103R. how does that make it a direct competitor to the Denon?Yes, and further to this, I listened to up-market line contact version of the AT33 - ...
Vinyl Heaven : Lyra Atlas on a Durand Talea 2
04-20-12: Mikelavigne........the Telos looks it in the eye and even spits on it sometimes (especially with the Ortofon Anna).........Mike, how does the Anna compare to the A90?
Kontrapunkt C vs H
Consider getting your 103 retipped by SoundSmith or Expert Stylus. You will then have a cartridge that will compete with very expensive models in the 'audiophile' compulsories and probably beat them in musical gestalt.
Denon Dl-103r is it for real?
The 103R is a very good cartridge, I've listened to it after some highly praised cartridges and it always surprises. However, if you do the back and forth comparisons it sounds somewhat colored and has limitations in focus, fine detail, resolution...
Boron Cantilever and Ruby Cantilever, Why Ruby?
04-19-12: Dhl93449Mechans:Diamond and sapphire are extremely brittle, in that you cannot bend or flex them without breakage. I did not mean they were not strong materials. In a long needle shaped (ie length>>>diameter) structure like a can...
New Dynavector SUP 200
Looks like a nice unit.Haven't heard it, but needs to be good at an RRP of $2650.
Benz Lp-s Frequency Resonance Problems
The weight of the LPS and its compliance suggest that the resonant frequency will be on the low side with the Phantom. What turntable are you using?Sometimes its how the turntable deals with low frequencies - ie perhaps there is a resonance being ...
How will you split $3000 between phono and cart ?
03-31-12: PaniThere seems to be multiple recommendations of Parasound JC3 phonostage. I never thought about that phonostage it is hardly discussed.Really? It's been widely reviewed and in glowing terms in both the online and paper mags.It would ce...
Coil metal for Lyra Erodion MC step-up ?
I'm surprised the 58dB gain of the PH8 is not sufficient for a .6mV output cartridge. In any case I can't say I really understand why ARC phono's traditionally offer this lowish amount of MC gain. The Ref 2 seems to be the exception - it has gain o...
I tried a cheap cartridge and I LIKE IT
03-20-12: Davide256tobes... that arm tube looks very much like the Grace 707 design I used to own.... which sucked with Grado.Off topic of the OP, but I also owned the 707 long ago and fail to see the resemblance. Totally different headshell, very...
SUT shootout
03-19-12: Br3098Public announcement - I screwed up (again). The Cinemag Blue is an 1131, not the A3440AH as I typed in my response above. Oh well, at least that makes the comparison to the HM3 more valid, since on their low gain setting they both ...
I tried a cheap cartridge and I LIKE IT
03-16-12: Davide256............ My suspicion is that your light weight arm is why the other cartridges sounded bad...you need high compliance cartridges which Grado definitely is not and more than likely the others are not also........ Despite it'...
SUT shootout
Br, thanks for the invite, but I'm located in Australia - so not likely to take up your generous offer.Sibelius, that Blue Cinemag must be quite a piece (and a bargain) to be running neck and neck with the H7. I almost went with Bob's blue Cinemag...
SUT shootout
Thanks for the further info Br.Even though the gain of the HM3 and Cinemag are pretty close, the turns ratio of the HM3 on low gain setting (1:20) will give a reflected impedance of 117.5ohms vs 183ohms for the Cinemag (1:16). Its hard to predict ...
