Schiit Freya+ vs. high end (e.g., Mcintosh) ? I've had the original Freya for several years, using the tube stage exclusively, and have never felt the need for anything different. It's a really nice-sounding pre, IMO.

Schiit Freya+(Plus) Another +1 for the Freya+. Mine is the original (with the tubes), I've had it for a few years, it gets pretty warm, it sounds wonderful run thru the tubes, I've had no bad surprises. I love it. Sorry to hear some owner's experiences aren't as good.

amp for vandersteens My 2Ce Sig IIs sing with the angels when driven by a Vincent 331-SP hybrid (SS/tubes) amp and a Schiit Freya (SS/tubes) pre. But, this setup is in a dedicated room acoustic treatment. The room will affect half of what you will hear.
Which is the most important part of a stereo system? Another vote for the room.It IS the most important single component affecting the sound by at least half or more of what you will hear. It's also the most overlooked/disregarded.The majority of us just keep focusing on the gear. There's a reason som...
Almost embarrassed to ask, but... My source is the Oppo 103 and I have tried it as a pre going into a Vincent SP-331. Ultimately I have things set up now using the 103 digital out into a Schiit Modi Multi DAC then to a Schiit Freya (the one with the tubes) then to the Vincent amp....
Jim Smith and advice Bought the book several years ago. Lots of good advice. Followed his suggestions and am very happy with the results. Learned the room and the setup will give at least half of the sound you will hear. He does mention room treatments. His emphasis i...
Vandersteen 2ce Signature vs Tekton Double Impact We have similar tastes in speakers and room size. The Tektons definitely get rave reviews and have a return policy. If you try them please post your findings.
Vandersteen 2ce Signature vs Tekton Double Impact I own the Sigs. What they do well- image and soundstage. What they don't do well- dynamics, high SPL and efficiency.Based on what I've read the DIs do dynamics, SPL, and efficiency really well. You're comparing apples to oranges. "Horses for course...
What are the best Room Accustic Treaments members have found? +1 for Primacoustic panels. Purchased mine from Sweetwater Sound. Placed them on all four walls plus the ceiling at all first reflection points. Enormous improvement in SQ. More than any gear change. Remember, the room and the setup determines at ...
Upgrade DAC for an Oppo BDP103 My Schiit Modi Multi connected with Blue Jeans digital cable made my 103 sound more musical, less clinical (better to my ears), but will only play CDs, not SACDs or other formats.
Any tweaks I'm missing? Ditto what the above posters said. All I can add is room treatment and meticulous attention to setup. The room gives, and the room takes away...
