Share albums where EVERY SINGLE song is good
My list would look almost identical to "tony1954"s list, with the addition of Steely Dan’s "Aja", and The Doors "Morrison Hotel" and "Strange Days". Other additions would be Chris Isaak’s "Baja Sessions" and Jethro Tull’s "Stand Up" and "Benefit"....
The Boss is the Bo$$
I saw Bruce Springsteen only once, at the Berkeley Community Theatre. It was just Bruce and a guitar, no back up band. It was amazing! I told my daughter at the time, "Now you know why they call him The Boss." I hope he enjoys every bit of that mo...
RIP oregonpapa
This is very sad news. I always thought that "oregonpapa" was one of the most balanced, down-to-earth guys on this forum. We will miss him.
Michael Nesmith
As a teen (around 1967), I worked at a gas station in Burbank, California. After putting gas in a car, the driver gave me his credit card and it said Mike Nesmith. I recognized him but didn’t want to seem star-struck. I was way too cool for that (...
Your experience with an inexpensive DAC?
I also have an Oppo 105D and two Pioneer Elite BDP-09 Blu-ray players. My suggestion is not as esoteric as Jerry’s. I caught your request for an "inexpensive" DAC and I recommend a Benchmark DAC1. It’s an early model, and I have seen them as low a...
Berkeley Audio Design - is there a reason why these go up for sale if they are that good
If you’re looking for an answer, it shoud be obvious...different strokes for different folks. My plan is to make my next DAC be from Berkeley Audio Design, even if I have to settle for an earlier, more affordable Reference 2 version. "Detailed and...
RIP Graeme Edge
Very sorry to see this. I have always been a Moody Blues fan, especially "On The Threshold Of A Dream" and "In Search Of The Lost Chord." Graeme was a part of all that. We saw Justin Hayward a few years ago, just him and a woman with a synthesizer...
Who are the Stand Up Guy's and Gals in this Audio Industry?
I've had good luck working with the service guys at Kimber Kable. I had an ancient Kimber power cord that they couldn't repair, so they just sent me a new one. Recently they re-terminated a pair of bi-wired speaker cables. They work fast, and thei...
Who are the Stand Up Guy's and Gals in this Audio Industry?
mijostyn,Thanks for the heads up. While I don’t really know Dan, my comment was about someone who would introduce me to his wife, and even his dog, and then give me a guided tour of his facility on a weekend when they weren’t even open for busines...
Who are the Stand Up Guy's and Gals in this Audio Industry?
We dropped in unannounced, and unexpected, to Dan D'Agostino's manufacturing facility in Cave Creek, Arizona. Although he doesn't know me, he gave me a complete tour of the plant. His products are beautiful, well-made and expensive. When I can aff...
What do audiophiles do in their cars?
Years ago, I had the Honda/Bose system and later the Mark Levinson system in a Lexus. I don’t recall the sound being anything special. These days, Honda and others probably, don’t even offer a CD player. For my money, I believe the best spend is f...
Trouble joining "Insider"?
rmbotto,Just FYI-a year after I joined, I received a pop-up telling me I was being charged for another year automatically. I contacted Tammy and she cancelled the charge, but gave me the second year free. I don’t think they want to lose any of the...
Polk S-8 Speakers getting old
If your budget is around $3K, then a pair of preowned Sonus Faber speakers would fit your description. There is a plethora of models to choose from.
Still happily using vintage gear?
Most of my stuff is about 30 years old, and still working and sounding fine (fingers crossed). Some of the oldest are my Sonus Faber Electa Amator speakers, Classe Audio DR-15 amp, Stax Lambda Signatures, MFA preamp and Denon 3520 CD player. Over ...
Your experience/thought on best sounding SACD/CD Player for 1,500 or less
IMO, I think you will have to look hard to beat the value of the Oppo 105D. They can be had for around $1,000. Use the other $500 to buy some more discs. Another good choice would be a Sony 5400ES. You can find them for somewhere around $1,000.
