Would you buy speakers with out first listening ?
While I am one of the biggest advocates of auditioning a loudspeaker there is, if the right pair of Apogees came up for sale, I think I'd buy them sound unheard (going on the recommendation of people I REALLY trust).
Jadis DA60
My friend, Russ (Rcprince), is correct. The DA60 (and DA30 & DA50) is autobias for certain.By the way, I'd be most interested in anyone's DA30/DA50/DA60 for sale...
laid back speakers
On this we finally agree, Rsbeck! In my going completely against conventional wisdom, most solid state gear, to my ear, has a warmth, thickness, and lushness, that should not produce harshness in many instances. Tubes tend to give sparkle and brill...
Cary vs Jadis vs Quad tube amps
Actually, I think you are in a better position than us, No_slouch. You don't have to deal with all of the stuff that went on with Jadis in the USA and Canada over the past 15 years. In the Far East, the brand is well respected on its merits alone....
Irving Bud Fried has died
Your comments are not lost on me, inetcomputers@netzero.net. I appreciate all input, as the goal is to serve the community at large, and being as involved as I am with the internet discussion forums and seeing myself as a true audiophile, I strive...
Cary vs Jadis vs Quad tube amps
Agree with the thoughts about the Jadis. Simply incredible sound. My amp provided me with the best sound I have ever gotten out of my Coincidents, clearly superior to my heavily modified AtmaSphere M60 or Granite 861 monoblocks. The sound was tona...
laid back speakers
I can assure you, confidence is not something I lack. Give them a try, Rsbeck. Not that you'll believe me anyway, but the Frieds are also not warm. They are more open and clear. Despite being 4 ohms, you can drive them with low power tubes well, i...

Welcome back, JD!!! It's great to have your knowledge, passion, and dedication back here on Audiogon. I for one, have missed you dearly in the few years that you have left us. Here's to hoping that you will stay! All of this being said, what you ar...

laid back speakers
And when you're tired of the laid back Vandersteen sound...You ship them to Bill LeGall of Millersound! He truly performs a transformation of miraculous proportions on them. Hopefully, my friend, Vinh Vu of Gingko Audio, will chime in here to vouc...
Question for DIY people: Butcher block shelving??
By the way, JD, have you had any contact with the wonderful Bruce Lee Armstrong (brulee)? We miss him dearly, me especially. A truly remarkable human being, who should really come back to us here.
Question for DIY people: Butcher block shelving??
Wow, Jadem6, WELCOME BACK!!! One of the most truly thorough, obsessive (I mean that in the best way) audiophiles in the history of Audiogon. Very nice to see you chime in here once again, it's been a long, long, long time.
laid back speakers
Rsbeck, you are quite correct about most of what you say about the VR1. However, you are VERY wrong about describing it as warm, or recommending it as a laid back loudspeaker. It is a very engaging, open, clear, treble forward speaker. A very good...
One of the best tweeters ever, whatever happened?
Sean, I was surprised you didn't chime in about the Optimus speakers the Linaeums were used in. As you are well aware, people used to stuff the ports with some VERY interesting things!
Irving Bud Fried has died
I attended the funeral services this morning. Very nice, yet very somber. It was very cold and very rainy, just outside of Northeast Philadelphia. Seems like the sky has been crying here since Friday.I sound like a broken record, but Bud was a uni...
