life expectancy of a cdp?
Hello, Steve! The Droplet is the only Consonance to currently use the Philips. Along those lines, it is the only Consonance player not to have laser assembly worries. The first generation of Droplets used the Sony, and had LOTS of problems. What is...
life expectancy of a cdp?
Grant, actually, it's the other way around - the Philips is far better than the Sony. From what I understand, that wasn't the case more than 5 years ago. However, since Sony shifted production to China, the quality of its laser assembly has really ...
Low cost Amp?
I'd try a Dynaco ST70. Not the last word in power or low frequency extension, though with your loudspeakers, it will be fine, as it couples beautifully to my Fried A/6, which have a similar design - apart from the series crossover. A cheap way to ...
John Potis - Rest in peace
Thanks for all of the posts to this thread. I have been in contact with John's family, and it was an embolysm that took John down, not the cancer.Obviously, his wife and daughters are still in a state of shock. What concerns me beyond getting them...
Local dealer cuts store in half says audio is dead
Honestly, I am not sure how one can survive these days in a brick and mortar dealership today. I think it's a fool's game. The dealer simply has too many things going against him:1) Simple business. Obviously, it takes a pretty good inflow of capit...
Need help with Jadis JA200
Though I have no experience with a JA200, my path down the road of other Jadis amplifiers has led me to the following opinions:1) KT90 are a poor tube choice. The KT90 is a cold, sterile tube, which does not allow the magic of a Jadis to come thro...
Sources for Dynaco Stereo 70.
Marty, I'll snap a few photos and send them off to you.One thing that I didn't expect at all was that my wife was really keen on the look. It's stainless steel, and good bit smaller than the average 17" component, both of which made her happy. Per...
Sources for Dynaco Stereo 70.
Marty, I built an ST70 over the summer, and am delighted with it. It was fun, fast, and I often stay up late at night with a smile on my face listening to it. Of course, it's not the most powerful amp out there, or anywhere near it, and the low fr...
Circuit City is Closing, Liquidating
Not only was your post (admittedly) completely contrived/fictional, but it was also the very definition of classless, Larry. While I've never worked at Circuit City, nor have I known anyone who worked there, the account you relayed was the opposite...
Supporting Local Audio Stores are we?
My recent experience in selling off a bunch of equipment has taught me that people buy on price, price, and price. There isn't all that much more to it than that. No matter how low that price is or how much of an opportunity/bargain it is, the lio...
IRS Beta -- help
I'd give Bill Legall of Millersound a call at (215) 412-7700.Although he known most for some serious Vandersteen upgrades, Infinity is his true passion. I doubt anyone has done more Infinity work than Bill. He's done a lot of work to the EMIM and ...
Tube Amp,Solid State Preamp.
I agree with Newbee in that a tube power amplifier is the way to go. Solid state preamplifiers are fine in this combination, and can sometimes, even be preferable to a tube preamplifier. If I'm putting tubes anywhere, it's the power amplifier.
T.H.E. Show admission
As a person who attended as a manufacturer last year, I can say that anything that hikes the attendance would be most welcome. And, from what I hear through the grapevine this year, last year is going to look crowded in comparison. Discouraging pe...
John Potis - Rest in peace
Thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences regarding John.To me, that was just the way he was. He loved corresponding with people, and had as much time as a person requested of him, whether he knew them or not. The overarching thing, as can ...
Can I replace/repair a Phillips SACD transport?
My experience over the past 2 years is having to fix approximately 60 Sonys, yet only one Philips. Today, the one with the Philips is the only one I recommend with no caveats. Another company makes a pretty well regarded player here, the cheaper o...
