Infinite bafflement? Ojgalli's explanation is a good one. It all has to do with the relationship of the compliance of the driver and that of the air in the box.In layman's terms, a sealed box can be either acoustic suspension (AS) or infinite baffle (IB). A small box,...

Rock Maple substitute Clipsal, I think this is a tremendous opportunity to drive the knowledge base on the subject forward.Far too often, we tend to settle into a mindset where a particular notion becomes Gospel, stunting the discussion, and boxing our knowledge and pe...

Componets first, cables second? Short answer, components first. Were it me, I'd buy the right CD player for myself, then work with an entity such as The Cable Company ala their "Lending Library" or by trial and error "buying and trying" here on Audiogon to find the cabling that f...
Anyone heard the Consonance Cyber 800 amps? M. Stark, thank you for your inquiry! Here are my answers to your questions:1) Without a back-loaded horn type speaker, none of the 211, 845, or 300B variants can rock out like the Cyber 800. With a more traditional dynamic speaker, the Cyber 800 ...
Anyone heard the Consonance Cyber 800 amps? Hello, Mrjstark! Some of the other Cyber amplifiers actually are manual bias. In fact, because of this feature, which I consider a convenience, I have modified my own Cyber 211 amplifiers to be able to run both 211 and 845 output tubes without havi...
Anyone heard the Consonance Cyber 800 amps? Saki70, yes, that is the case. There are no bias adjustments with this amplifier. So long as you make sure you stick with EL34 and 6CA7 output tubes, it's simply plug and play.
Anyone heard the Consonance Cyber 800 amps? Please don't worry about it, Mrjstark!I just don't want anyone ending up with a 4th of July scenario. I have personally tried the JJ KT77, Sovtek 6550, EH KT88, and JJ KT88 in the Cyber 800 tube monoblock amplifiers. None are compatible due to the...
Anyone heard the Consonance Cyber 800 amps? Mrjstark, thank you for your thoughts on the Cyber 800. You were incredibly thorough! The only thing I can add is that the Cyber 800 does NOT accept 6550 or KT88 tubes, or KT77 (at least, JJ KT77) for that matter. EL34 and 6CA7 variants are compati...

How Do I Find A Customs Broker? I'll work on the presumption you don't have a container sized order coming in...One caveat before we go any further, if the item you are importing is a CD player or pair of loudspeakers, you've just made the entire process far more complex, as you...
Tube amps and speaker ohms Grant, my KT77 comments are based solely on listening to the JJ variant. I'm not sure how the Osram (didn't know they made KT77) and Mullards would sound. In my Jadis DA60 and Dennis' (Badboss429) Quicksilver, a bunch of us (including Mechans) comp...
Tube amps and speaker ohms I think the point Newbee made about the EL34 versus KT88/6550/KT90 is something that REALLY needs to be lauded. EXCELLENT POINT!!!The EL34 is a tube that is going to be in many of these amplifiers. And, while it is my favorite of the traditional p...
Tube amps and speaker ohms I am fast coming to the conclusion to stop looking at "watts per channel" as an efficient means of determining how powerful an amplifier is.My experience tells me that the power supply and transformers play the biggest role in this, as opposed to ... |
