Ethernet Switch- what's the point?
@fredrik222. The difficulty here is that a lot of people's experience contradicts the basic "facts". As has happened throughout the history of science, in these situations advances happen when the apparent contradiction between "facts" and experi...
Ethernet Switch- what's the point?
@fredrik222 Occam's razor doesn't cut it when one relies on argument from authority fallacies to make one's case.
Ethernet Switch- what's the point?
@fredrik222 - confirmation bias is a two way street. To the extent that it applies, objectivists are just as prone to it as subjectivists. There is a valid role for empirical observation in science otherwise we'd be stuck at "sun stand thou still...
Ethernet Switch- what's the point?
I recall how strenuously the "bits is bits' argument was made in the early days of digital. And we know how that played out.
BEST CD TRANSPORT
A further mention of Esoteric. The only pure transport Esoteric now make is the Grandioso, now with the Atlas transport mechanism which replaces the previous VRDS Neo. Unfortunately Esoteric no longer supply OEM transports which means that compani...
Why Do Cables Matter?
@ieales. I am a recording engineer.
Why Do Cables Matter?
+1 Nonoise. @donavabdear. I agree with a lot of what you say about Al Schmitt’s recordings - which are superb. However, I disagree with your "bottleneck" comment. You miss the point that the engineer doesn’t just listen to what’s being recorded v...
Why Do Cables Matter?
@hilde45, being involved in the hi fi industry business as well as the recording, The term High Fidelity from my perspective means being faithful to the original recording i.e. being able to reproduce it as accurately as possible. I have to say t...
Why 432hz Tuning?
The standard for tuning in western music has evolved over centuries. A440 is now regarded as the reference pitch. However, not all recordings will necessary conform to that, especially those from the analogue era when producers sometimes used vari...
Why Do Cables Matter?
@donavabdear. At the risk of flogging a dead horse, the point is that one is aiming to retrieve the information which is already there and not to add information which is not present in the recording. Thanks for re-presenting your propositions. T...
Appropriate Apple table for Roon
Just for completeness, you can also run the Roon app on a laptop. I find this much more convenient than a tablet as battery life is much better on the laptop.
Why Do Cables Matter?
" donavabdear 320 posts 06-02-2023 at 06:30pm  If you understand the principle that the original recording can't be made any better (you can't add information) to the signal then audiophiles should know that no recording studio use...
Why Do Cables Matter?
In further follow up to the robbydouglas2 post, I also love these kinds of declamatory statements like: "My system sounds amazing. Most people that have listened to it have never heard anything better." Statements like this are utterly pointless s...
Turntable recommendation
@op, the best solution is to buy worn out records cheaply and look at the LP artwork and sleevenotes while streaming. I'm only being slightly facetious. A small collection of LPs is going to cost north of €1,000 and a decent vinyl source will cost...
Why Do Cables Matter?
+1 rbstehno Following on from the previous post, it's amusing that the people who claim cables don't matter are generally using cheap cables.
