DIY Cheap crossover parts effect on frequency response
If your crossover design is defective, better parts will not fix that. I think you need to provide a lot more detail on your overall design - drivers being used - and the crossover design to get any useful feedback.
Monitors
Part of the reason that people don't use studio monitors for home listening is that nowadays, the majority of them (the monitors that is) are active and most people already have amplifiers and so are more interested in passive speakers. Secondly,...
Why Do Cables Matter?
@donavabdear  Thanks for your response to my post. The time code to digital sound synching is a digression, but an interesting one! It's not strictly correct to say that the analogue waveform of a recordings at different sample rates will be th...
Why Do Cables Matter?
@donavabdear Thanks for your response about the second law of thermodynamics. With all due respect, what's in the post does not relate to the law. Regarding your comments on digital audio, you refer only to sample rate, which relates to frequency...
Why Do Cables Matter?
@donavabdear    I'm still interested in hearing your more detailed view on entropy. Personally, I tend to experience it when my microphone cables get tangled. Actually, that's on of the plus points of hi fi cables - they are entropy resistant ...
Why Do Cables Matter?
@donavabdear "I've been trying to understand why so many people are willing to spend so much money on cables, when no studio does, easy question really, 0 answers but plenty of attacking me and not the arguments." To provide at least part of the ...
Why Do Cables Matter?
@donavabdear  There's a lot packed into that post. So... I don't think there is any relation between a recording setup and playback. There is a relationship between recording monitoring and playback. In both cases, you want a room that doesn't c...
Why Do Cables Matter?
@donavabdear  Thank you for answering my question - I appreciate it. Even the best recordings are a long way from the sound of live music, so anything we can do to get back what;s on the recording itself helps. But we have a long way to go!
Why Do Cables Matter?
@donavabdear  Thanks for that lengthy exposition but could you just please give a direct answer to the question that I asked. A simple yes or no will suffice.   Thank you.
Why Do Cables Matter?
@donavabdear, To echo thyname's post and to reference your recent post, we are attempting to retrieve the original "7" not 7.5. Do you accept that recovering all of the information contained in the original recording is a legitimate aim of hi f...
Why Do Cables Matter?
A few observations on intellectual property. 1. Having protectable IP is important to inventors who may wish to licence their IP and not use it themselves. 2. It can be vital when looking to raise external capital. 3. Just because something is ...
advice for headphones?
Audeze LCD-XC are a good all round choice. Good for hi fi and also used as monitoring 'phones in studios. From personal experience, they work well in both applications. For pure hi fi applications the LCD-X is better.
Swiss Digital Fuse Box - "What headroom sounds like"
@pinwa - replacing a fuse with solid copper not only runs the risk of damaging equipment, it will also invalidate your house insurance if, for example, a lightning strike were to cause a fire. And those things do happen.
Do my ears deceive me??
@OP - Keep your Focals when repaired because they have the kind of frequency response you say you like. As you have found from auditioning, current B&W's are similar. It is highly unlikely that you would respond positively to Harbeths or any o...
Ethernet Switch- what's the point?
fredrik222 362 posts 06-09-2023 at 07:20pm  "@yoyoyaya and we are back to bias. the facts of how a switch works doesn’t change. It is not an intelligent device that can make decisions based on what is transported via the switch....
