Does your amp sound hum....when your ear close it
Did you hear about the guy who had a fan-cooled amp? When he got close to listen to it hum, it blew in his ear!
VISATON's MONITOR 890 MK11:world's "best" monitor?
Doesn't this seem remarkably similar to the way the HMS cables thread got started recently? But I suppose if this were really a shill, Tweekerman would have included the URL. Or would have heard the speakers - Tweek, how do you know these are "win...

Yes, it is normal for your amp to hum, when it doen't know the words.
to cut or not to cut: help
Ah yes, the slings and arrows of outrageous audiophilia nervousa, making that vaguely fatiguing whizzing sound as they go shooting by, narrowly missing the slight but growing crust of tarnish beginning to occlude those once-golden ears....I've oft...
Isolation Cones. Will I get the point?
Mdomnick, to me the funniest thing about this string is the entirely (honest!) unintentional pun I seem to have slipped into the first sentence from my above post. I've really gotta stop writing on the 'Gon past my bedtime...
Your choice of EL34's
Albert, exactly which Sovtek 12AX7 are you recommending? I was never impressed with them in the past, but I know they've introduced some new wrinkles in the meantime. My preference in new 12AX7's has been Yugoslovian EI ECC83's, though a person ha...
Jeff Rowland Amps?
Aron, an amp in the quality range of a Rowland will absolutely tear up any Adcom or similar amp driving any speaker you care to throw at it (BTW, 86dB is average sensetivity). Do not place too much emphasis on rated output wattage - it really mean...
Isolation Cones. Will I get the point?
Whirshfield, I think the relevant point here is the difference between the way cones or spikes function underneath a speaker vs. the other components you are wondering about. The reason Thiels (I own 'em too) come with spike points is to rigidly c...
When the Power Tubes Run Out
Check out the recent thread titled "Your choice of EL-34" from 4/16 for some relevant discussion of related topics...
Your choice of EL34's
FWIW, I agree with Albert that the Tesla's are good for the money, but for a little more I prefer the Svetlana's. My tests were done in my Connie-Jay MV-55 driving Thiel CS2.2's (I've not heard the V-12). The Tesla's were certainly better sounding...
Why SACD,DVD-A are already DEAD
Yes, Unsound, we kid because we love! (Or because we want to keep [what's left of] our sanity...)
Your choice of EL34's
Maybe the guys who resurrected the WE 300B could branch out...
Why SACD,DVD-A are already DEAD
That does it - now I have to shut off the computer and go for some of the Colonel's original - eleven herbs and spices, Yum!!!
Speaker Cable Upgrade Path Advise, Please
I used to use the Crosslinks, and although there are certainly better cables above these to be had for not too much more money, I wouldn't have described them as "bright". In fact, I chose them at the time because they were smoother than the entry...
Help with purchase of power conditioner
Psychic, I suppose you would approve of an API like I have, since it's isolation transformer based. The first generation (non-Ultra) 114, 115 or 116 models should suffice for Rigo's system at around $300 used. But tell us, since Tice won't, what i...
