You don't need Dirac to make great improvements, especially in the bass, in combination with room treatment.
Generally I'm quite fond of miniDSP.
2 channel DSP?
I am doing some room treatments and have REW and a umik to measure my results. I've also been researching the Mini DSP SHD Studio which seems to be a good option to control the room through DSP/Dirac. The thought would be after I've gone as far as I can with room treatments I can run Dirac through this device and make things better? I can run the outputs of my streamer and CD transport into the SHD Studio and then send that digital signal into my DDC/DAC combo and off to the preamp/AMP. Has anyone had any experience with something like this? Please be patient, all this stuff is rather new to me but I am willing to learn. I just got into streaming 6 months ago and like the convenience. I am saving for a nice Aurender N200 in the future. I've watched a lot of youtube vids recommending that DSP will not degrade the signal path in the digital domain? Thanks!
@erik_squires Will the DDRC 22D be all I need for 2 digital sources (SPDIF and AESEBU) to make room corrections? Not sure I can figure out how to manually make adjustments after running REW. Thought I could lean on Dirac to make it easy. Thank you! |
What is and why would anyone need dsp....unless your room sucks beyond belief...In my 40 years of doing this, I’ve never felt the need or desire to use any of this stuff, same goes for a sub...well there is one present where it belongs, in My theater set up. Maybe I got lucky....my speakers sound great in my room, without any of this trickery. .. .... |
You absolutely can use the miniDSP toolset with REW. I have roon so I went with that as hardware to implement the DSP. I also bought Focus Fidelity as the tool with a UMIK mic. It was much easier than REW which can be a daunting software. It’s super powerful but can be overwhelming. It was $250 for the focus fidelity and only takes an hour or so to do. I used the defaults on the curve and it took out all big humps and dips in my bass. I only applied to 5khz. I am very very pleased with the results. |
