No one really? I guess it is one of Don's newer offerings...
Would love to hear from the few who have experience with the phono pre.

Anyone heard the Don Sachs Custom Tube Phono Stage?
I have 2 of them. One I use at home with the Don Sachs line stage. The other I use at audio shows to demo the Bob's Devices Step up transformers. I have used many phono stages in the past and like this one a lot. I also currently have a Hagerman Trumpet which, in my opinion, equals the sound from the D. Sachs Phono stage. I have tube rolled both of them with Amperex Bugle Boys on the input tubes. I am very happy with the sound from the D.Sachs Phono stage. I have had Don change the gain switches on the phono stage to include a 100k setting to use with cartridges that have a high internal impedance and low output with a SUT. |

@bobsdevices Would you be willing to mention the strengths and weaknesses of the Don Sachs and the Trumpet MC? I am looking at both (admittedly on MM right now) and wonder what the strengths of each are. |
I use Chinese tubes and a GE tube on the line stage. On both the Don Sachs phono stage and the Hagerman trumpet MM phono stage, I am using amperex bugle boy tubes. Upon close listening, I slightly prefer the Haggerman over the D Sachs phono. I have not heard the MC trumpet. I am using the D Sachs Phono because it fits in my rack. There was not that much difference for me to build a new rack. |
@bobsdevices... I'm considering getting another tubed mm phono stage and both the Don Sachs and Hagerman Trumpet MM interest me. I'd be using my Hirata Tango SUT with them. Have you noticed any hum issues with either of these phono stages? Do you know what kind of gain these have? What tube types are they using? Any sound characteristics that they have... how do they compare? I like the idea of having Don Sachs having two separate inputs ie: 47k and 100k. Best Wishes, Don |
