Earl Scruggs dies at 88

Bluegrass legend and a hell of a banjo picker.

Mr. Scurggs was a great player. Probably one of the best. He starred in a duo with Lester Flatt. The duo was called Flatts and Scruggs. I remember seeing them in concert and hearing their records played in my home as a boy. They played bluegrass and country when country was country and not rock and roll with a twang in disguise. RIP
Earl was a musical giant and a humble man. His contributions to country music will never be forgotten.
My late father was big fan of Earl, I used to enjoy listening to his meticulaously cared for 78's with him. RIP
In addition to his musical skills, his legacy very importantly includes helping bridge the generational and musical divide between traditionalists and the "newgrass/alt country/country-rock" scene, thereby enriching both sides.

Rest in Peace.

I probably never would have heard of him if it hadn't been for the Beverly Hillbilly's and the theme song.

Earl Scruggs with his son Randy and the Earl Scruggs Revue, introduced bluegrass to many folks who would not otherwise have listened to the genre. One of my favorite pickers for sure. Pick on, Brother Earl, pick on.
What a fine player! What a sad day. He was part of a duo and his partner was Lester Flatts. Don't know if he is still around. They played bluegrass and country when country was country and not rock in disguise.
I saw and heard them play in St. Louis when I was a boy.
