A great one! Great White

Great? I don't know about that. I think I'd rather have the dog than the man, but anyway...R.I.P.

Way to go roxy.....Really.....Respect someone when they pass on.I've done funeral work for the past 26 years.Every faith there is ,NYC....and It's amazing what you hear and read.RIP Jack.....

Indeed RIP have never really listened to the band. I have read that he had dementia and other medical issues.

Not a lot of people in and around Warwick Rhode Island who knew and/or were related to some 95 people who died in a fire will shed many tears over this.

@roxy54

I don't know what possesses someone to insult a person that just lost his life. You could just ignore the post, but you preferred to make a snide remark and offer insincere condolences.

Truly baffling.

@tony1954

I didn't insult him, I just questioned whether or not he was great, which I don't think he was. That's not an insult, just an opinion.

@tony1954  +1   A handful of characters actually dilute the quality of Audiogon with attention seeking and irrelevant posts.

From the NTY

”Jack Russell, the singer who led the popular 1980s hard rock band Great White as well as a spinoff group, which set off one of the deadliest nightclub fires of all time, died on Aug. 7 at a family member’s home in Southern California. He was 63.

The cause was Lewy body dementia and multiple system atrophy, said K.L. Doty, who collaborated with Mr. Russell on his autobiography.”

One of my oldest belived friends has rapid Lewy Body dementia. It’s horrible for all (family).

@tony1954

That's a silly and superstitious belief.

@dayglow

Attention seeking and irrelevant? What are you talking about? I was my opinion.

@roxy54

I don't think common courtesy and respect for the dead is either silly or superstitious.

Would you tell the bride at a wedding that her dress is ugly?

Hadn't heard the news, always enjoyed the band and saw the group a few times. Glad to have the recordings I do...

@tony1954

I believe that if he was still alive and had just released an album that you disliked, you would (justifiably) feel free to say so. My comment was pretty mild. I simply said that I didn’t think that he was great. Few musicians are.

If you consider that an insult just because he has passed on, I will repeat what I already said; that is superstitious. I think it’s based on that old "only speak well of the dead" belief.

Nothing related to superstition—just a rather inappropriate statement in context. Please remove the post, whoever made it.

And for those that think this 80s band was limited to that one ( and mostly overplayed ) hit “once bitten twice shy”, try a quick listen to a later unplugged track, “Sail away” , and appreciate that even the most hardened critics of this era’s hair music period will be able to at least appreciate Jack Russel's vocal talent.

Excellent singer and a great band. That live album is a great showpiece. R.I.P.

One of the greatest hard rock singers of the 80's without question. RIP

If you are a fan of rock check out the Great White album Once Bitten - amazing from start to finish.

Agreed- those 80's Album/Cd(s) are must own.  Admittedly, I do not follow Great White into the 1990's. I understand the band continued to release very good releases as well.

Happy Listening!

Go on youtube and find some of the old live performances from 1988.  Amazing.

Right up to the end he sounded great.

YES! The Ritz in 1988 was the place to be heard and seen. Since you like Great White's performance, check out Gun N Roses.

Happy Listening!
