Rega planar 3 or Project X2? Which is the better turntable?

Not everyone is a Technics fan. Myself included for my own reasons. Read the OP's thread. He didn't mention Technics, you guys did....

Some people don't even know a better turntables exist at the same price with different type of drive, plinth, tonearm ... Brainwashed by dealers at their shops, or there is another reason - it's really hard to understand sometimes. But any entry level belt drive turntables are very bad and the tonearms on those turntables are very bad too. Why not to mention an alternative before someone will make a costly mistake?

Or it will be exactly like you said below:

Do you really want a good turntable, or do you have too much time on your hands for doing something constructive.

Search audiogon on Rega and Pro-Ject and you will see how many problems with those turntables mentioned by their owners. Others trying to invest more in the same turntable to make it better instead of just buying a proper turntable from the start and forget about everything except for the cartridge.

Again,  Well Tempered uses a uni pivot arm.   Junk. Thank you for your input.  Next.
OP
Would you like to put the Rega or Project up against the Well-Tempered? I have had Rega and Project. Neither sonically close to the Well-Tempered. I don't think I have to tell you which is better,,,,,do I????

here we go again

Too bad the Technics looks like Sh!@. And the rumble and vibrstion from that direct drive mechanism on the platter must sound wonderful. Lol

@jeffvegas

Each Technics is different and if someone prefer wooden plinth then SP20 or SP10mkII can be mounted in any custom made wooden plinth with any tonearm. Slate plinth also possible, even cast iron plinth.

Vibration from a platter? Do you know the weight of the Technics platter or Technics turntable itself ? This is not your plastic belt drive toy... Comparing Technics (very well damped) heavy or even superheavy platter to belt drive turntables with lightweight platter is nonsense.

And we can put heavy (2.9kg) Micro Seiki CU-500 copper mat ot top of the Technics platter without any damage to the bearings and no effect on torque.

Do you really think that several generations of engineers of the Denon, Technics, Victor, Pioneer have no idea what they have been doing for 100 years ?

Even a lightweight platter of Denon DP-80 is not that simple if you will look how many layers did they use to design such platter. There is a damping material between the layers.

If a Direct Drive could spread harmful vibration to the platter then it would be impossible to make any vinyl record!

A master disc lacquer cuts on Neumann lathe with Technics Direct Drive motor under the platter, the cutter stylus above that.

Constant argument about vibration from a well designed DD motor that can be picket up by a cartridge is 100% BS !

Before posting nonsense do your search first and read something at least if you don't have (or never tried) a well designed Japanese Direct Drive turntable (no matter what brand).

Jeff, the new 1200G series is marketed at audiophiles not DJs. Do the research. Google "Fremer Technics Caliburn" and "Artisan Fidelity Technics" and "Technics SP10 mk2".
For $1700, it will blow away those cheap belt drives.
Direct drive? Never was convinced it was the right way to engineer a high end turntable.  Disc Jockeys sure love Technics tables but dont know if they ever had a great reception with Audiophiles.
Haven't heard the Project but I have heard the Technics SL1200GR beat the Rega P3.
Wish someone would give some input. The REGA has a big name but the Project has a lot to offer.
