"Darkness/Earth in Search of a Sun" - from First Seven Days by Jan Hammer.
"Toccata and Fugue in D Minor" Bach. played by E. Power Biggs |
Beethoven's 5th has been grabbing people for several hundred years. |
The opening riffs to California Girls and Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress |
Some really great tunes listed above. Here's what i thought of off of the top of my head in no specific order. You know what they are as soon as you hear the opening line...

PS... Reading threads like this makes me want to bust out a ton of different albums : ) |
"Sweet Child Of Mine" - Guns n' Roses
"Limelight" - Rush
"Children of Sanchez" (Long Version) - Chuck Mangione
Second the "Hotel California" recommendation
I'm sure there are a ton more that I've heard that I just can't think of right now... :( |
|
1. "Satisfaction"
2. "Sweet Home Alabama"
3. "White Rabbit"
4. "Hotel California," as previously mentioned
5. Herb Alpert's rendition of "A Taste Of Honey"
6. Many Beatles songs, TNTC |
"Cherub Rock" - The Smashing Pumpkins |
American Idiot, by Green Day. One of those REALLY LOUD CDs, but it does make me grin. Makes the walls shake, too.
I think the Nirvana classic "Smells like teen spirit" takes some beating in this department also.
And there's always Beethoven's 5th Symphony. Probably the most memorable intro of all time. Or perhaps Bach's Toccatta and Fugue in D minor.
And finally Saint-Saens Piano concerto no 2. I love the intro, but I hate the second movement. |
Emerson Lake and Palmer..."From the begining" Boston "Foreplay/Longtime" Introduction to 2010
|
Here are a few of my choices:
Pride and Joy by Stevie Ray Vaughn Tie your mamma down by Queen I wanna rock by Twisted Sister Walk of life by Dire Straits
Eben. |
hell's bells ac/dc the voice of enigma/ enigma |
"Reeling In The Years" Steely Dan |
"Come Together" by the Beatles |
To really throw something out there... The opening riff to Still D.R.E. Otherwise, the first bars to Schubert's impromptus Op. 90 No. 2 and Op. 142 No. 2. |
|
Intro to Sweet Jane (Rock and Roll Animal) |
Theme from "Shaft" - Isaac Hayes: it's a bad mutha
"Bad, Bad, Leroy Brown" - Jim Croce: finger poppin' and head bobbin'
"Pursuance", 3rd movement of "A Love Supreme" - John Coltrane, with Elvin Jones on drums: you are exhausted by the time the horn begins |
"50 Ways To Leave Your Lover"-that drum hook is amazing. |
Perhaps the most recognizable intro is the opening chord played by George Harrison's 12 string Rickenbacker on "A Hard's Day's Night". For years controversy has existed over the actual chord whether it is Gm7add11, Gsus4, or G7sus4. It makes me smile every time I hear it. |
The Youngbloods had nice intros with at least two songs that I favor, 'Darkness, Darkness' and the song, 'Let's Get Together'. Friend and lover had a great intro with 'Reach Out in The Darkness'. |
I revisited this thread and looks like the winner here thus far is the intro to the Beethoven's Symphony No 5 which is mentioned more times than any other intro.
It sure is a classic and probably more widely known/remembered intro to a much wider audiance and not just audiophools. |
